I asked Brian about angling the halo. He thinks it will look best like this, since the melee are so small and would basically be hanging on for dear life if it was angled.
Regarding the prongs, I am waiting on a response from Lesley or Jamie on whether Brian is planning to bezel set or prong set the stone. If it needs to be prong set I will use claw prongs.
I talked to Brian again tonight. Apparently there is another set of CADs, with the stone bezel set, that Lesley forgot to send. Since I really wanted the stone to be bezel set, we are moving forward with bezeling the stone. I will post pics of those CADs when I get them.
I also asked Brian about the curvature of the "leaves" in the gallery (I'm assuming that's what Pregcurious meant about the struts), and he has assured me that the CAD is very sharp and that they will be more curved in the final piece, which is what I wanted.
By struts, I meant what is supporting the halo, and now I realize they are all leaves. From one angle, one of the leaves looked like a straight rod, otherwise I would have said leaves. My concern was the same as yours--that they be curved enough.
Here is the CAD with the bezel, the one we are going with. Ignore the extra prongs at 7 and 10 o'clock. I've been assured that they are an error and won't be in the finished piece.
