I was browsing WF''s Expert Selection Princess-cut diamonds when I came across these two:

http://www.whiteflash.com/princess/Princess-cut-diamond-40108.htm#

http://www.whiteflash.com/princess/Princess-cut-diamond-43128.htm#

Unless my eyes deceive me, they''re exactly the same color, clarity, and carat. The cuts are both rated 4 stars by WF, and the numbers don''t look all that different at a glance.

So why is the first diamond $400 more expensive than the second?

From the little I know.No two diamonds are ever exactly the same.Only an xpert eye can tell the small difference between the two..

Yeah, that''s true, and I agree that the two look different. Just looking at the online pictures, I actually prefer the cheaper one! Which makes me even more confused as to why the first one is that much more...

Not an expert...but technology helps.

Look at the ASETs. I''d immediately favor #2. Is it worth $400? I''d pay it, but it''s a question call.

Ah, I see a difference there. I''m too much of a newbie to know how to read ASETs, but I suppose that huge chunk of green at the culet can''t be good...?

The more expensive one comes with an AGS 0 in light performance & "ideal" grades in polish/symmetry. It costs more to request this report, called a DQD, so we normally restrict DQDs to 'A Cut Above' diamonds. This one an ACA Princess prototype, cut during our research & development in early 2006.

Sounds like the more expensive one is basically an ACA with a discount. I''d snap it up if you are interested.
