I have a simple but maybe not so simple question. For a $25,000 budget on a round cut stone, what qualities can I expect to find in a 2.8 - 3.0 ct? This website has an amazing wealth of information and the more I learn, the more I realize I have a lot more to learn ha... It would be great if someone with experience could tell me realistically what qualities they think I might could find with that budget in that size range. Obviously I would love to get the most for the money but what should my expectations be??? Thank you in advance for any advice. I have a hard time making a decision with this amount of money

There isn''t a lot out there readily available in that size range. However, you''ll likely be looking at the I-J/SI range to go that large on 25k. I didn''t find anything with any of the usual PS suspects, but here are a couple decent bluenile stones for reference-

thank ya''ll for your help and replies

I would get this (a modest 4.12carats) from here! and use the leftover 5k for a Single Stone or Leon Mege setting

As ice kid said, you would be looking at least in the I-J range with SI1-SI2 clarity. Also, it depends on what level of cut you want. Cut is what makes, or breaks a diamond. It's what makes it sparkle, or not. Sometimes you can find well cut stones that have say, a Very Good on Polish and/or Symmetry, and while that won't affect is appearance much, if at all, it will lower the price some. So if you just want a nice diamond, I think you could find one in the size you're looking for. But if you want a super duper louper (extremely well cut), you would need to lower size a bit. Keeping it just under the 3 ct. mark will help, the price jumps dramatically once you hit that mark (moreso on the very well cut). Also, there simply aren't a lot of well cut stones in this size, so keep that in mind too.

Are you looking online? If so, Ira found a good contender. On the BN stones, I would want to see an Idealscope pic on the first one, the pavilion angle is deep, and the other is what we call a steep/deep, which means both the crown and pavilion angles are too deep for each other. That can cause light leakage (and definitely would in the second stone), which will take away from the beauty of the stone.

One thing to note. Once you get past the 1 ct. mark, and especially once you get to 2 cts., it takes quite a bit of weight to make any real visual impact. So a slightly smaller stone is not going to actually look that much smaller in a ring. And a very well cut smaller stone can actually look bigger than a larger so so cut.

Here's a very nice stone, if you are considering online. This would be considered a super duper louper. (if eyeclean)

This would be a nice stone, if eyeclean. The upgrade policy here is rather strict though, so take note if interested.
