Just wanted to thank the folks in the pearl area for suggestions/help on pearl rings! I think we have a winner. 
My friend messaged me just yesterday to say his girlfriend showed him the ring she likes, and asked my opinion:

He said he was a little annoyed because when she originally e-mailed him the link, it was on sale for $400 or so
, but he wanted to get her what she wants so he was going to bite the bullet (smart man).
I then noticed this ring from Pearl Paradise:

It's got a few things going for it over the Macy's ring, like the fact that it's 18k gold instead of 14k, and the pearl looks a lot nicer (IMHO). So, he ordered it!
He's planning to propose soon after he gets it, so I'm hoping I can take photos of it and share them here. Thanks again!
P.S. I am also going to suggest she get a substantial wedding ring to wear alone when she doesn't wear the pearl ring.
