Wow, I have really learned a lot over the last month or so regarding stones etc. I know who I would deal with and who I wouldn’t. The most annoying thing about Internet dealers is the fact that some of them are pretty close to me yet still can’t arrange to have you come and view several stones at the same time. I think we could have got a better stone, but in the end I was so fed up with the whole process we just settled for one. Of course after I negotiated a decent discount for a lot of messing about. I don’t intend to bad mouth anyone forum dealers as everyone is entitled to make a living, suffice to say one or 2 of them are a little "enthusiastic" with their descriptions and grading etc.

I ended up with a 4.25 Princess cut with an EGL saying VS1 J. Our local Jeweler and GIA grad says it’s more a real clean SI1 J-K......I understand this and accept it. The stone is really eye clean and sparkles and is really very bright and colorless now it’s mounted. It came in within budget and I knew I had to give up some quality for a largish stone.

This site has peaked my interest in Diamonds and I will be popping in from time to time to see what’s going on....

Thank you everyone.

Congrats Florida Phil!

Happy to hear the good news ...
I hope you are going to post pics!

I''m sorry your journey wasn''t more enjoyable.

As for the stone not coming in per the report, if you read up here, you know what an EGL can mean. I''m not meaning to discourage you and your purchase, but then again, I don''t want you holding that against a vendor. EGL is notorious for coming in 1-2 grades lower on color and clarity...

Having said all that, we''d love to see pics. Sounds big and gorgeous!

I fully understand that and accept that. Its not a problem now and I dont want to get into it over dealers etc.....We have a stone that is acceptable and she loves...what more can you do.

I did just try to take some pics but they are not coming out to well with the flash on. I will try in natural light tomorrow.

Diamonds don''t photograph well with the flash on, so you might find these tips helpful. Turn the flash off and use macro mode on the camera ( flower icon) as this allows for sharper focus. Try outside with the sun behind you and keep the camera and ring as steady as you can, an improvised tripod can be useful. Expect that you may only get a few good photos per session as snapping diamonds isn''t easy!

Hope this helps!
