Guys can get a tension setting for a wedding band? Yes or No?

What about this one for a guy?

Or this one?

i think tension settings are very unique and i really like idea of them being used for a mens band. what material will you use for the center stone?

as long as the are TI why not.
imho gold or plat would not hold up.

We''re not sure yet. He wants sapphires (either as the center stone or in side stones) since my ring will have sapphires in the band.

So either a sapphire stone or a diamond will be used.

He liked the princess cut until I showed him GOGs website and there are so many different types of squared and rounded squared diamonds. Im not sure which one would be the best for that type of setting.

I was thinking either princess because it would blend into the ring OR Asscher just because Ive always loved this cut. But there is Jubilee, Square H&A and the Cushion cut to choose from.

We both have been drooling over Titaniumonline for an hour now. So many different combinations, it''s so hard to choose.

How big a stone do guys usually get for their wedding rings? I was looking at a .5 at least for the wider bands and a .25 for the smaller bands.

Strmrdr...I think someone had mentioned that you are very knowledgeable about the Asscher cuts. Do these have more sparkle than a emerald cut?

I have yet to see one in person but I have just been mesmerized by them on the net.

yes in most lighting conditions no in some, size makes a difference too.
They also sparkle in different ways.
In small sizes the emerald cut actualy wins a lot of the time.
I like the asscher look tons better once they hit 5mm x 5mm but below that the emerald cuts have a slight edge.
Each has its own look that is pretty kewl in any size.

Thanks for the comments strmrdr. I like the Asscher simply because it just seems unique. We''ll see how much he likes it though versus the other cuts.

Do you know by any off chance which cuts do better in tension settings?

There are a couple of guys with tension set bands listed / talked about here. Including Mara''s.

A sapphire should work just fine in a tension setting... be it Ti (my love and joy

) or precious metal.

Can''t wait to see this one go ahead!

I''ve seen almost anything used, so there shouldn''t be any limitation. As long as the ring is build ok... everything goes, apparently.

Perhaps some shape would be ''safer'' than others in theory, but rounds are done the most, and I suspect that it is the jeweler''s experience with a certain type of ring or another that is the main safety concern. Rectangular stones come second and everything else is downright unusual - although feasible (feel free to count on trillions, marquises, hearts, pears, baguettes if desired).

Btw, the tension ring in the picture below is Greg''s ring I mentioned above - Link to SMTR thread

Btw. this one is not 'tension', but just happened to be an asscher-set example resembling the others (white metal & colored gold strype).

WoW! I really liked the ring Valeria included because it makes the diamond so noticeable. I''m thinking we''ll probably go with a diamond center stone.

But then I saw Scott''s ring and I am in love

, simply because I am partial to the rose colored gold and it looks so beautiful paired with the silver color in his ring.

What shape of stone did he use?

The only thing I drive myself nuts with is ALL the possible combinations one can do with a tension setting as far as diamonds and gemstones. It''s endless.

I love tension settings for men. Val posted my husband Greg''s ring in this thread.....he''s actually got a .38 E VS ACA in it, and he gets TONS of compliments from people on how unusual his ring is and lots of guys comment on how boring their rings seem...it''s kind of funny that men *can* be into jewelry sometimes. He also loves having a small diamond of his own. His ring is titanium and yellow gold, I love that rose gold and white metal one that you posted Val. An asscher with that mile deep pattern in that would be just divine!

Nevermind, I see it is called a Cushette. I am getting more excited about his ring than I am my own.

Thanks everyone for posting pics and for the kind compliments :) Just my two cents, I found that stones with fairly straight edges like princess, asscher, radiant and even a squarish cushion tend to maintain their apparent shape best when tension set. I suppose that due to the larger contact area, perhaps the divet for holding the stone might not need to be as large. Additionally I have found that with a cushion, the diamond seems to fill the gap a bit more so its not quite floating out there in space (a look I am sure many appreciate and prefer), but I do like how mine seems a bit more "filled". Here is a Link for the ring and in it there is info on the manufacturer Mr Bruce Boone, a wonderful craftsman and artist. I can not wait to see what you both decide, and please post some pics when you do, eye candy is always appreciated!

Best,
Scott
