Okay, I have been looking for a nice Princess for while now, driving Jogia Diamonds in Australia crazy with my strict criteria!! This stone has just been certified, here are the specs on the certificate:

0.90 ct
G
SI1
5.12 x 5.12
76.6% depth
67.6% table
43.2 degree crown angle
13.5% crown height
4.9% girdle (Sl thick)
56.8% pavil depth
60.9 degree pavil angle
VG finish grade
Nil fluoro

$4,500.00 Australian Dollars = $3,458.25 United States Dollars

I know it's really difficult to assess Princess cuts by the numbers alone, I have emphatically said to him over and over that Cut is the most important, and brilliance, fire and scintillation are a must!! He mentioned I must be reading up on Gary Holloway stuff!!

The depth is a little more than I was initially wanting, and the spread maybe smaller than other 0.90 carat stones. But he assures me it is bright and sparkly, and I will love it. They have a life-time upgrade policy, and 14 day guarantee. The price is the best I have seen for the quality stone (he initially had it graded himself as a G SI2, but came out as SI1, hasn't charged extra).

So finally, thoughts? Please? Thanks!

i don't think a 76.6 depth is a problem. 60.9 PA seems quite steep to me, though.

ETA: oh, I see, it's 60.9% P, not angle degrees. please don't put a % where one doesn't belong.

Thanks for that, I have fixed up my mistake! Cheers

Something is wrong with the data.

In a princess, since it has a straight girdle, crown heigh and girdle thickness and pavilion depth should add up to total depth. Here we have a difference of 1.4%.

Could you please check?

That's a good point, thanks for bringing it up, I have checked and I think I copied it correctly, here is the scan of the specs from the certificate. And you're right, it doesn't add up!!!?? Oh no, just the confusion I need!

I would not worry about it too much. It can just as well be a rounding problem. Let us try to work with the data you have.

The 60.9 pavilion angle is the P1-angle, but the 56.8% depth indicates a P2-angle under 39°. I personally do not like that. On the other hand, I do not like the steep crown angle. And the girdle thickness is a tad too thick for my taste.

But then again, all in all, it seems like one of the better combinations one can have without going into AGS-graded princess-cuts. Based on the specs, it seems like one of the best one can get without going into AGS.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for your feedback Paul. I am still undecided, but it is my first diamond, I do intend on upgrading in the not-so-distant future!
