It is yellow gold, which is what I want, and I would be setting my pear in it. It''s very unique and I''m really drawn to it, but I also have some reservations. I am wondering if my pear might be too big for this design, or if it is just right to set it off without detracting from the center stone. It''s okay to be direct if you don''t like it -- I haven''t bought it and you won''t hurt my feelings. You may be able to point things out to me I had not considered. I''m also on a very tight budget.

what size stone does it say the center will accomodate? what size is your pear?

it''s weird...that ring does not look real to me.

UMM...I personally think it''s a little too busy for a fancy shaped diamond such as the pear. But if YOU like it, that''s what truly matters...just keep that in mind.

I don''t have any measurements on the ring yet and I haven''t seen it in person. I really like the general design, but I think those notches bother me. I''d like it better if the top was rounded and the bottom had one corner instead of that little notch. Anyway, I think I''m going to pass on it because of that.

I kinda like it. If your pear will fit into the prongs that are in it, it''ll almost give it a halo effect. If your pear is much bigger than those prongs it might look a little odd for it to be hanging out over the front diamonds. Do you ever plan on wearing the wedding band separate? My first wedding set fit together like that, but I could never just wear the wedding band, which annoyed me a little, but my husband loves the look of rings that fit together.

I suspect that it''s designed for a 1 carat pear, and mine is a 2 carat, although it''s rather deep and faces up more like 1.5 or 1.75. I love how the two rings fit together too and would always want to wear them together. That, and the fact that it''s delicate looking, keeps attracting me back. I kinda thought it would have a halo effect, too.

It is not MY style at all but if you love it and it "speaks to you" than I think you answered your own question.

I actually like it. Can we get someone around here to photoshop a pear onto the pic? I''m not computer-savy enough for that unfortunately. That would be helpful even if the proportions are not quite perfect.

Where is the ring coming from? Can you ask the person/verndor what size head is on it now? Would it be possible to get the ring but return it if is not quite right?

I actually like it as well and think DL's suggestion of someone photoshopping a pear into it is a great idea. Even if it's designed for a 1 ct pear, that seems like a simple 6 prong pear head - couldn't it be swapped out by whomever is setting the stone? Maybe by the side view it's more integrated into the ring than I think it is?

Well it is not my style, I like it!

What is the return policy?

It''s an ebay item from an individual and non returnable. It''s one of those deals that if the price is right it''s worth the risk, because the potential is there for it to be a real find, but if it goes over a certain amount of money it isn''t worth the risk. I''m waiting to get the answers to our questions from the seller, plus, I want a few more photos. Here is my photoshop of my pear in the setting, although I''m not sure we can really tell much because it appears so flat and can''t see the profile, etc.

I dont think the prong for the pointy end is V-shaped, do you think Limpkin it''s going to be protected enough with the setting parts?

I would just have a different head put on it when I had it set, but you know, now that I photoshopped it I don''t think I like it as well. I think it was designed for a smaller diamond and the proportions won''t be right, although since I don''t know the exact dimensions of the ring I may be wrong about that.

It''s a little too risky for my taste since it''s not returnable. Otherwise it''s a cool setting. Perhaps this gives you an idea for design and you can go from there in your search.

Is there a side view picture? Top down it looks cute, but I doubt that the high-set ''head'' plucked in the middle looks all that nice on top of the diamond frame below flat on the finger.

IMO

The seller has not provided a side or profile shot, which I did request, but maybe she just hasn't gotten to it yet.

Yeah, it doesn't rock my world. That's okay, the longer I wait the more money I'll have saved for the project. It is kinda cool, though....but then again.....but I keep going back to it... It certainly makes me think, though, and you are right about it giving me some design ideas.

Ayyy Yyyy Yyyy! Back and forth, back and forth. I'm such a weirdo. It's not the one, but it's tempting.

Lumpkin, settings are such a personal choice, but I find myself thinking your pear would be lost in this setting. It''s so nice to see a pear''s outline in a ring, but this one would totally take it over and ''lose'' the shape of the pear. I''m also not sure about the pointy bits on the end, they could be troublesome by snagging on clothing etc. For a 2ct pear, I think you could work some better magic.

the part that sticks out looks potentially painful

LOL! Pears are kinda like that anyway.

The more I look for something else, the more I like what I have. What a weirdo, I need to find another hobby, LOL! I just wish my white gold would stay white, and then I''d probably be okay.

Dear Lumpkin:

I am a RBC girl all the way; but if I have a special love for a fancy shape, I would go with a pear....especially one that has the graceful outline of the one that is photographed .... minimal bow-tie effect too... I too like yellow gold...eighteen to be exact... the nice thing about the "set" is that it is a set... but I think the mounting would be lost under the stone... Have you ever considered putting pear shapes on either side? I know it is a bit on the "typical" side, but I love the look; Van Cleef and Arpel ... the points going down round ends closer to the center... ? This looks great in 18 or 14K yellow gold, and I have fashioned mountings like this for clients and they all love it.... it is classy and really simple, doesn''t compete with the center, and you can show that center stone and all its lovely winking and sparkling....

I must be honest, I don''t like the setting...the notches are strange in my opinion. I say wait until you find something you REALLY love. Just my 2 cents.

I personally do not care for it and think it will distract from your beautiful pear.

I agree, I think it takes away from your pear. Just my 0.2

You know, I like it enough for a gemstone of some kind, but it doesnt strike me as a diamond setting. I know that doesnt really make sense as it has diamonds all around, but someone mentioned that the channel around the prongs could look like a halo. I think with your stone being so large, you would block that effect & then lose the look of the setting. Like others have said though, if you love it, then you will be happy. I have this same dilema with my birthday present. I seem to be stuck in a time warp even though I dont want to be.

Everyone says "if you love it you''re the only one who will know".
