I had noticed that by using the HCA, I could determine if a round brilliant was a good quality diamond. After comparing some ideal cuts and ACA, sometimes the difference in cut may be only .2 or .3 percent off the optimum with the crown and pavillion. This would be the deciding factor as to whether it was a "ideal cut" or "super ideal cut". May question is, Does a small change in the percentage have a real effect in Br, Fire and Scint, Spread to justify the huge markup in price that you see?

Is there a real difference to justify the cost even if the HCA shows the ideal cut diamond to be just as good as the "super ideal cut"

Thanks for your time.

Congrats on the HCA patent!

Not sure if I can really answer your core question, but I would encourage you to mess with strategies A & B referenced below my signature, vis-a-vis shopping strategies. Both the search by cut db & big db give you tools to do this...with your vendor of choice...though WF may most clear carry both in house & virtual options these days.

Best wishes,

A very small change in the pavilion angles can have a large effect on performance.
Crown angles less so.
