Which do you like better?

What do you like in your tea or coffee?

How many cups a day do you drink one or the other?

What kinds of snacks do you like to eat with your drink if any?

I am a lover of tea all the way. During the winter time (in philly) I can drink anywhere from 3-5 cups a day  I typically do not put anything in my tea at all. I do like green tea, passion flavored tea from starbucks, and mostly all other kinds. I usually like to eat something with my tea. A cookie or two (or four), PB&J sandwich, or a bagel with cream cheese.

As for coffee...I rarely drink it. If it has 5 spoons of sugar in it and milk I like it a lot more. I do love ice coffee though.

How about you?

Ohh I drink tea by the gallon!

I just love tea. I love the way it smells, I love watching the leaves unfurl and the water darken, I love buying and trying exotic and strange new flavours (though I always have a cup of my standby Earl Grey at the end of the day), I love making my own with roses FI very sweetly brings home (at first he was apparently so confused as to why after a couple of days there would be six roses and six beheaded stalks in the vase ::) )

I don't usually eat anything with it, and I prefer to drink it by the mug rather than in those prissy little gilded teacups I have this inexplicable need to collect..

I'm a tea snob, I don't like teabags. And I definitely don't pollute it with foreign flavours :cheeky:

Coffee - used to drink too much of it. Kicked the habit, and don't miss it. Tea is much more fun!

Yssie...I too drink it in a huge mug. Yum.

Thats so cool that you make your own! Would you mind sharing how? I'd love to try that out

I enjoy tea, but need coffee to function. Coffee will always win.

Oddly though, in the months of October through December, all I want is tea...

I like hot chocolate too...mmmm.

I love chai tea w almost everrything, coffee w/ my dessert and to function, and green tea w/ sushi.

My favorite thing to add in coffee... kahlua!

The first step is to find a nursery or local vendor that sells safe-for-food flowers - you don't want to eat anything from your local Safeway, it'll be covered in pesticide.

-Pick the petals and cut off the white parts near the base (they're bitter)
-Dry the petals (I think the tea is stronger using dried leaves, but that could just be me!). Fill a netted bag or sac loosely with petals, tie the ends and hang in a *dark* dry place - you don't want to bleach them out in the sun, the flavour gets lost, though sun-dried curry leaves for example are fantastic!). Usually takes me two or three days.
-I use about half a cup of leaves per 16oz mug, smells fantastic and tastes strong enough not to be 'flavoured water'. I don't like honey, but I've heard most people do.. it's fantastic with cinnamon, sometimes I'll brew it with white tea, the rose flavour in combo with that white tea 'sizzle', for lack of a better word, is kinda fun :))

I've tried all sorts of other additions - cloves, cardamom...

I'm on my third cup of coffee tonight actually... It's quintessential when you work 5pm to 5am like I sometimes do.

But tea has its place. It's great for a cold or when you want something warm and delicious that isn't coffee. I have a not so common cinnamon allergy so that eliminates chai tea, passion tea, and a lot of other teas actually, not to mention yummy delicious pastries. So I'm a little bitter ;)

I love green ginger tea, I brew it up, pour it over frozen peaches and blend it, delicious smoothie.

I haven't come to the point in my life where I can drink coffee with everything, like some people of certain ages can. I am however a coffee snob. When I want to savor a cup of coffee and enjoy the flavor, not just use it for a caffeine boost, I grind freshly roasted organic beans, put them in my coffee press and enjoy. But sometimes you just want to the caffeine, that's when I use Folgers or what have you.

I would love to learn how to choose the perfect tea leaf and would love a reason to by a tea diffuser spoon thinger! Does any edible flower make for good tea?

Yssie that sounds absolutely mouth watering! I will have to try.

I am a big fan of tea... my friend is Turkish and they brew this certain tea that I just adore! It is super strong and sweet... ahhh I find tea so relaxing... and beneficial to your health. Usually I curl up with a good book and munch on some Veinna Fingers cookies =)

Coffee is different... I like it in the morning for the aroma, energy and warmth. I also love to put flavored creams or cinnamon in it so its almost like a dessert.

Mmm, coffee for me. Tea is something I usually reserve for when I'm sick and I put a ton of honey in it.

If I'm making my coffee at home, it's Yuban (cheap, but my fave) with a splash of half&half and a teaspoon of sugar. If I'm at a Starbucks, it's a Grande NonFat 140 degree Vanilla Latte. But those are close to $5 so that's a splurge for maybe once a week.

A couple years ago I was diagnosed with a heart condition and if I have too much coffee, it aggravates it. So I generally have to limit myself to no more than two cups/day. Bummer.

Gosh...the ginger tea over peaches blended sounds :lickout: :lickout: :lickout: :lickout: :lickout: :lickout: ...wanna come over and make me some? :)

I prefer coffee. I drink one mug every morning when I'm working. I drink coffee a couple mornings a week during the summer, and I take it with some milk and a packet of Truvia. I always drink it with my breakfast, which is always two eggs over medium cooked in the center of a piece of toasted bread. Mmmmm.

I love iced tea in the summertime, and I make a southern sweet tea so it has a lot of sugar and some lemons squeezed in it.

I go through phases where I drink hot tea during the winter. They usually start when the Chicago winter has been dragging on so long it has finally gotten to me. I usually love winter, but sometimes they are just too darn long. When I drink tea I only drink black tea, with some sugar and a squeeze of lemon.

I actually drank two mugs of coffee today because I underwent an eight hour grading session. It was a long haul and I needed more fuel. Both of my summer school classes ended on the same day, so I had over 40 large portfolios to read. I felt a bit dizzy after the second cup, though. That's too much caffeine for me, I think.

a ginger tea and peaches smoothie sounds amazing.... :lickout:

davi - re. tea from flowers - you sure can!

I've made tea from and/or cooked with roses, as described before, carnations, tulip petals, cornflowers, violets, hibiscus, jasmine, pansies, in my S. Indian family the flowers from a banana plant are a very common (edible) garnish - if you cut through the hard outer layer for the white parts inside. Most of the flowers on herb foliage are edible, too..

The things to be careful of are pesticides and allergic reactions, and consume anything new in moderation! Use ONLY the petals, not stamen/pistil, unless directed otherwise (most often the people selling edible flowers will know and warn you about certain plants).. and if it tastes bitter or you find a rash on your fingers after picking, don't eat it, obviously ;))

Your grocer should have several edible flower charts, and poisonous flower charts are a good idea as well - or if not, I'm sure there are a bunch online, though I'd still ask your vendor to confirm

If you're growing your own flowers you'll want to pick them for cooking first thing in the morning, when they're at their peak of water retention. The best ways to coerce flavours out of petals are to either dry or boil fresh, in a saucepan on a rolling boil, until the petals darken and visibly soften and the water itself is scented and flavoured - pouring hot water over a cup of petals isn't going to do much. Also, you'll want to either dry or use fresh, I can store fresh petals up to a week without trouble (put them in a pitcher of water with a wee bit of seasalt and stick them in the fridge) but I wouldn't do longer than that, and they do lose flavour the longer they're stored in water. Dried - they'll keep for weeks, if not months!

Floral vinegars and oils are fine if you're going to use them soon, but again you don't want to plan to store for a long time - bacteria growth.

Sorry for the mini-threadjack Autumn!

I have to have a mug of coffee every morning, with skim milk, no sugar, or else I don't function. I have it with breakfast -- Kashi cereal or oatmeal.

Sometimes I have an espresso in the afternoon, mostly whenever I've lived in Europe.

I do try to drink a lot of tea while working, just to stay hydrated -- herbal tee or green tea.

l enjoy both, and don't need either to function in the morning (l just drink water throughout the day; my shower is my wake-me-up), which l like. Usually when l want to unwind or treat myself to something special, l'll choose one or the other but which will depend entirely on my mood, or perhaps the meal it's following. And it varies between normal black tea, French press coffee, cappuccino, mocha, chai, occasionally green tea too--it's all yummy. :))

I drink tons of day every day, at least 6 cups. I don't usually have anything with it. It's definitely my comfort drink.

Coffee. One a day. Grind my own colombian pbeans from a small company based in London.

I like tea, but drink it only once a week. Don't like flavours. Can't stand earl grey which FI prefers.

I like both tea and coffee. I try to keep caffeine to a minimum so I try not to drink a lot of either. I like soy milk in both but some Bailey's in coffee is pretty darn good too.

I like both, but only decaf.

In the summer, I keep a pitcher of iced tea on hand, and I almost always order iced tea if I'm in a restaurant. Despite my southern-ness, I don't really care for sweet tea. I just like a wedge of lemon in my iced tea.

In the winter, I like to have a mug of tea when I get home from work or after supper. I prefer Earl Grey with a little milk and sugar.

I drink coffee much less frequently. I prefer my coffee with lots of cream and sugar, and I love a good mocha, so I only get coffee drinks as an occasional treat. At a Starbuck's-type place, I always get either a latte or a mocha, hot in winter and iced in summer. If I'm at a place that does cafe au lait, that's what I get. And I loooooove cafe sua da (Vietnamese iced coffee).

I'm a tea lover. I'm not really a fan of coffee, or not coffee in a state that I could drink regularly (lots of sugar and cream, like ice cream!).

I usually drink my tea black. Sometimes if I'm having English breakfast I'll have a little milk and sugar in it. Earl Grey is always black. I also tend to drink iced tea and hot tea only occasionally though I like both. Iced tea is more thirst quenching in my opinion. I don't really care for fruity or herbal teas either. I like the basic blacks, greens and whites. I have one medium black iced tea from DD every morning. It's my caff bevvie of choice. I would drink it more but can't at the moment due to the LO.

I love tea, the stronger the better. My mother and I love to have tea parties together. Strangely enough we never did it when I was a child, but started when I was in high school. We bought a pretty tea set and we have tea and cookies. It's so fun! And now when we go to NY we have tea in a swanky hotel. This time it's the Plaza. Wohoo!

i like both...2 cups of black coffee per day during spring and summer then i'll switch to Jasmine tea in the fall/winter season.

hmm, that's strange, my post went away. Oh well. I like tea. I drink about four cups a day on top of my water. I like rose infused and chamomile infused teas. They calm me. I also like Tazo's organic Chai to spice it up.

Coffee with breakfast and with a dessert (Gloria Jean's or Green Mountain hazlenut decaf) cream only.

Tea the rest of the day, usually by itself, while I am sitting at the computer or watching tv (green decaf, lemon only)

I like both actually. I drink tea (or hot chocolate) at home and coffee if I go out to breakfast. If I'm at work, I usually drink hot chocolate or coffee.

I like regular ol' orange pekoe or peppermint tea the best, but green tea is good too. The only flavors I don't like are berry teas.

I like milk and sugar in my tea and in my coffee. I also like flavored creamers in my coffee.

My favorite snack to eat with either one is thin mints, but any cookie will do.

Tea for me. I can't stand coffee.

I like nearly all teas and tisanes (herbal "teas") and I love flavoured teas. Right now, I am drinking the most marvelous tea a dear friend gave me from India. I also drink a lot of jasmine and vanilla tea. In summer, nothing better than ice peppermint tea.

Depends on the time of day. I need my one cup of coffee in the morning, and tea just won't do. But I drink tea when I want a hot drink in the afternoon or evening, usually some form of decaf (either black or herbal). In the winter, I might have a couple mugs of tea per day to keep warm (also in Philly!). I put milk but no sugar in both coffee and black tea; sometimes a little honey in herbal tea but more often, nothing at all. I have breakfast with my coffee, but don't really snack with my hot beverages otherwise. DH likes to dunk pastries or cookies in his tea, which grosses me out...I hate the little bits that fall to the bottom of the mug and choke you on the last sip.

I love to get really exciting tea from specialty shops, but don't generally make it at home.

Coffee hands down. There's nothing in this world that can bring me to a relaxed stage than a good cup of coffee.

We make cuban espresso every afternoon around 3. That is my snack. On the weekends, I used to love coffee and a cheese pastelito but now that I'm dieting, I just do the coffee.

I used to start my day with a cup or two of coffee. Now that I'm living in India, I drink mostly tea.My helper makes chai and serves it with my breakfast. The funny thing is when I asked her to make me masala chai, she told me she didn't know how but she's from Darjeeling. LOL.
