I''ve wanted a tattoo since I was literally 5 years old and started drawing on myself, it just seemed inevitable and natural that I''d get one.

I''ve always had reason to put it off though. For one, I want the tattoo somewhere 1)I can see it and 2)won''t stretch beyond repair should I get pregnant or very chubby. So I worked up a small design intended for about an inch beneath the inside of my wrist. I didn''t get it done in college because I was worried about having a visible tattoo during my medical school interviews (there''s still an unfortunate stigma attached to young girls who have tattoos, and most medical interviewers are in their 50''s at least). And now I''m waiting until after my wedding because I promised my fiance.

Anyways, I''m kind of glad I waited, because I''m interested in the new InfinitInk, it''s the first FDA approved ink, and is removable fairly easily by laser treatment because they encapsulate a degradable ink in very small, non degradable vesicles. So if you want them removed later, you pass a laser over the tattoo, which pokes holes in the vesicles, and the ink leaks out and degrades (more or less from what I remember from the papers).

I was wondering if anyone has had experience with this new Ink? Or is thinking about getting a tattoo with it?

Also just wondering if anybody else out there on pricescopes is a tattoo lover?

Hey MTG, I''ve been toying with the idea of getting a tattoo for the past 5+ years. I''m still a tattoo virgin though. But FI has the same philosophy when it comes to tattoos as I do when it comes to buying diamonds: I have to love the idea for at least a year so that I know that I won''t change my mind anytime soon. My basic concept for a tattoo hasn''t changed so I''m pretty sure what I would get, I just haven''t taken that plunge yet. But I''d also be interested in seeing which PS''ers have.

That InfinitInk is really interesting. I''m gonna have to see what else I can learn about it.

P.S. My favorite tattoo design is from an Etsy jewelry piece.

Hey MTG! I got a tattoo when I was 15. It''s a small sun, verrry low down on my back so it''s very easily coverable. It''s all in black ink which is easiest for laser to remove. Also it''s not in my face all the time, I have to look in a mirror to see it, so I''m not sick of it after all these years. I''ve never wanted another one, but I love the one I have!

I have not tried the new ink... The last tattoo I got was almost 2 years ago. I have 4 tattoos and I love them!!!!!
You do need to be sure about what you want. I know people who went in in picked something "cute", like a random picture or a cartoon character. They liked it for a while, then they were over it and felt bad about getting the tattoo. I love tats, so I say... GO FOR IT AND ENJOY YOUR INK!!!!

Hi MTG - there are a few of us "tattooed freaks" on here (I have about 12 or 14 or so - after a certain number it becomes more about coverage than amount). I don''t know about that new ink but it sounds kind of sketchy to me (normal tattoo ink starts to kind of spread and fade out a bit after about five or ten years. I can''t imagine what that "semi permanent" ink would look like after a while. Tattoos are supposed to be with you for life. How much testing could they have they done on it? Like, what if you DON''T want it removed? What would it look like in 30 years? It could look really gross). I wouldn''t trust it. If you really want a tattoo, just go for it. Why be so scared of what other people think? So many people have them now, as long as it''s not huge or in a really obvious place, who cares? Pick a spot where you can cover it up when you need to and a design that you know isn''t too trendy or too "2009" and just love it because it''s something you love and don''t look back. I have ONE tattoo that I don''t like but you know what - it reminds me of when I was 23 and stupid and impulsive and I just kind of shrug it off (it''s a band of ivy on the middle finger of my right hand. I wear a big ring over it most of the time. No big deal). Oh and um, yes, they DO hurt - they can hurt a LOT depending on where it is (most people without tattoos ask that question). Any area without a lot of fat on it or directly over a bone hurts the most.......

Who was the poster here who had the GIANT dragon tattooed on her back?

I got my tattoo almost 8 years ago. It is on the middle of my upper back. People are surprise when they see it b/c I guess I am not the type. I like that it is on my back b/c I don''t see it everyday. I can hide it or show it off easily. Not sure I would do it again though. But since you have wanted one for so many years I would go for it! Life''s short.

i LOVE mine! just black ink and they are not visible when I wear a bikini- they are on my hip area kind of centered. Random location, but I really didn''t want them to be visible. I really love them. I do think if you are even thinking about removal though maybe a tattoo isn''t for you since technically they are permanent. I would suggest maybe getting henna where you think you want it, and then see how you like it. It is a great way to see if it is really meant to be of not.

I honestly think that if you''re considering an easily removable tattoo, you aren''t ready for one.

To me that''s like getting married with the attitude, well if it doesn''t work out, there''s always divorce! Yanno?

If you''re worried about what people will think, don''t get it in such a visible place. I have one on my back and one on my foot. By this time next month, I''ll hopefully have another on my shoulder.

If you have a design, put it somewhere you''ll see it everyday. Then wait and see if you get sick of it. If you don''t, then get it!

I love tattoos! I only have two right now, and I''m planning on getting more once the pain of the last one seems like a distant memory.

As for location, both of my tattoos are on my right foot. One is on the top of my foot, in the corner below my pinky toe. The other is on the inside part right (facing my left foot when I''m standing straight) beneath my ankle bone. The foot is perfect for me because I can easily see both of them, I can easily hide both of them, and I don''t plan on gaining much weight in my feet over the years.

Just know this: foot tattoos HURT. So much so that some artists will charge you 150% or double to tattoo on the foot because it''s more difficult for them.

I''m with Mausketeer on the new ink--a) I''m not sure I would trust it, and b) if you''re not ready to commit to a lifetime of ink, don''t do it in the first place. I got my first tattoo when I was 19 after traipsing around for nearly a year with the image drawn on my foot with markers. I kept redrawing it over and over to make sure I''d really love it. (I also had this horrible recurring nightmare that the artist tattooed my entire foot with black ink, and then my design was in there, too.)

I really want to get one on the inside of my left wrist, but I''m waiting until I''m tenured at my job, which will (hopefully) be the end of next school year.

Haha, I'm definitely going for it! It's just a matter of when, and what ink ;)

I've had the design worked out for the last 3 years, gotten pretty attached to it, hehe. I spent a month redrawing it everyday on myself with a sharpie, still love it. It's a grayscale design with a stylized lotus flower over the chinese character for "heart" made to look like leaves. I put a lot of thought into the design and what it would represent for me.

I know the new ink sounds a little shady, new drugs usually do. But I read papers on the science behind the ink, developed by a pretty clever Harvard dematologist, and it seems fairly sound. I have a friend who is a biomechanical materials Masters student, who is pretty in love with this idea. So the application of biomed materials is actually part of the draw for me since I'm training to go into medicine myself. I'm also pretty set on getting in near the wrist, which is not as easy to hide, I know. But it just doesn't feel right to get this anywhere else, I can't really explain it, lol. And if I really need to, I can cover with long sleeve shirts.

Of course I have no intention to get the tattoo removed, and I plan to go to a reputable and reliable parlor to get it done. However, I can't say I can predict the future, and I'm a little OCD. So if I somehow lost my hand in an accident that cut off half my tattoo design, it would annoy me, and I would want to get it removed, and redone in its entirety somewhere else. Or if my tattoo artist suddenly went into cardiac arrest while doing my tattoo which led it to be mangled, I'd like to get it removed and redone. I'm an OCD worrier, what can I say, lol.

I think tattoos can mean different things to different people, and I don't think one philosophy is more correct than the other, I think it's an art that is meant to bring happiness and a sense of self expression. And I think it's great that this new ink might persuade more conservative people to maybe go in for a tattoo. I've never really considered more options a bad thing, so I'm glad to see this ink around.

Hi MTG, I have tattoos on the inside of both of my wrists and I absolutely love them!
9.gif
Both are easy enough to cover with a watch/chunky bracelet when they need to stay hidden. I''ve also got one on the back of my neck which is covered by my hair most of the time. In terms of pain, the wrist ones were definitely the worst, but as they weren''t too big I was able to just grit my teeth and bear it lol

Sorry I can''t be of any help on the ink issue - I''ve never even heard of it til now.

Hey MTG! I also loooove tattoos. I have two. I agree with the others re:new ink.

What I did before I got my inner wrist tattoo, was draw it the EXACT same way in the EXACT same place every day for a few weeks. I got some weird looks, but it was worth it! When I stopped drawing it and missed it, I knew I wanted it.

I will also add this...I got my inner wrist tattoo in white ink. It needs to be touched up and I LOVE IT. No one EVER notices it without me pointing it out. No one, not even my Mom!

Anyway, I agree with Tacori...life is short, go for it!

I have two, one on each deltoid, and have design sketches for two more that I want to get. Most people that know me are pretty shocked that I have them, somehow they don''t think I''m the "type". (I wish we had a pic of Mom''s face when she saw the first one) Good to hear you''ve been thinking about getting one and the design for a while, it shouldn''t be an impulse decision.

For those interested, here's an article on the ink:
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=6126963
The material they are encapsulating the ink in is polymethylmethacrylate (mouthful huh?)

And I understand why people may feel upset or object to the idea of removable tattoo, it does kind of take something away from the traditional definition by taking away some of its permanence. But I personally view a tattoo as a form of self expression and art appreciation. And true, this might lead to people getting weird and wacky and zany tattoos on a whim, but it's their money, and if they want to be wasteful with it, so be it, I'm not here to judge. But I don't think it takes anything away from those who made the life long commitment to get a tattoo.

I think it's just expanding the idea of what a tattoo is and the ways it can be used to celebrate creativity.

I'm a fan of flexibility. I'm getting a tattoo, and it's kind of like entering a covenant with myself, lol. And part of who I am is someone who likes to hope for the best, but plan for worst case scenarios.

I've got one when I was 18... was at a rebellious stage,, to this day my parents still don't know
6.gif
but it's where the sun doesn't shine on it
2.gif
, and no one sees it, I haven't really thought about it, and don't regret it really becuase its just a part of the meaning of my name but then again I don't look at it everyday.. DH wants it to be removed... so whenever that place i have my tattoo gets all wrinkley i may just opt to get it removed... who knows it doesn't bother me as much as it bugs DH.

Haha, my fiance is actually pretty against me getting a tattoo, he doesn''t really understand how much it means to me and how long I''ve wanted one. It''s really an inexplicable attraction.

I''m still getting it though, it''s my body! And he''ll still love me, and chalk it up to another quirky thing about me that he just won''t ever get, lol.

I might as well share the design, lol. It won't be this big obviously, I will consult with the artist about the best size to allow for the best shading but still be small enough for my rather petite forearm.

haha, I even had this design made into a silver wire pendant and wore it for almost a year before I lost it
7.gif
Broke my heart a little...

I'm not too worried about the pain, I feel like child birth will be much worse, but I plan to do that too, lol.

do you have a picture of the white ink? that sounds interesting!!

So I was curious about this new ink and spent a bit of time Googling trying to find it. I just seem to keep running into articles from 2007 and 2008 talking about the company "Freedom 2" (USA Today articles etc) saying that it "will be available in 2008". Does anyone actually have it and is offering tats with it anywhere? (my brother''s best friend is a tattoo artist. I''m going to ask him if he knows anything about it too). I did read that they said it would be significantly more expensive than normal ink (which wouldn''t be a big deal for a small tat but for a large one that would be a lot).

Someone on here said they have a white tattoo. I''ve always wanted one of those too. My friend wanted one but when we went in, the guy wouldn''t do it! Some of them are such jerks (he said "you won''t be able to see it". We were like "Well, um, aren''t you lucky that you''d be getting PAID for nothing, then, huh?") You''d be able to see it because white still shows up on pink/yellow skin AND because your skin scars a bit from the tattooing. That''s something that they didn''t mention about this new ink. The needles still pierce through your skin, so even if the ink is removed from UNDER your skin you could still have a scar of the design on the surface (I have some keloid scars from some of my tats, especially in the summer when I get hot. They get really puffy).

I have not heard about this new ink, but I do have tattoos...3 to be exact. I have never regretted any of them.

love love love tattoos! I have several-my favorite is my frog on the back of my right shoulder, in my avatar. I''ve got them on both feet (Bruce the shark from Finding Nemo and JD''s name, our anniversary date and a viney flower deal around it), 3 sides of my ankles (rose, dragon, Tigger) and around my upper right bicep (chain of flowers). I''ve got tons of ideas saved for MORE and get giddy thinking about finally getting another one..or 7. JD''s big into them to, so that''s nice. One of his is my name on the inside of his wrist.

I can''t say I''ve regretting anything I''ve gotten-tho I wish I''d thought it out a little more for my feet-there was another shark I wanted more, and it was turning out to be a pain to get it, so I went w/Bruce, and still wish I''d not been in such a hurry. And the date on my foot has squigglies on it that make it hard to read, so I wish I''d not done that.

Plus, when I was looking for flower ideas for my back, which is what I want to do next, I found pictures of henna tattoos-and the designs were gorgeous-and I thought how awesome they''d have looked on my feet! My cousin has his own tattoo shop, so I might have to talk to him about it!

I know there''s an ointment they can use to help w/the pain before you get the tattoo, but I''ve found the pain to be um..*exciting*, shall we say? I think the sensation is more an irritation than actual pain, after a while.

That new ink..I''d have to agree to be cautious of it..my first was when I was 18-I''m 34 now and I can tell a difference in the look, and I wonder how much that would be amplified in an ink that is designed to not be permanent.

Lordy, that''s a novel..sorry, it''s a subject I get quite talkative on!

MTG-your lotus design, does it signify something to you? Just curious if there''s a story behind it!

Haha, it does, but it''d be a long rant to explain. Lets just say there was a lot of mulling over things involved, and it''s a mix of cultural/spiritual/and philosophical symbolism.

I will look to see if there is data regarding how it looks years down the road. I would bet there is data that spans a few years (just by FDA regulation), but I don''t know if it was inspected for quality control per se. But the good news is, if it does get fuzzy in 10 years, you can remove it and do it again! haha.

I'm kinda late to this, but I just wanted to thritto about having a tattoo on your foot. I have an icthus symbol on the top of my right foot, about an inch below second and third toes. I love it - it's easy to cover when I don't want it to be seen, and I can see it whenever I want. I got it about 8 years ago, and I've never wanted another tattoo (everyone says it's addictive - it definitely wasn't for me). It's just done in black and I really think there's been pretty minimal fading. Supposedly, the feet tats fade faster because of sweat, etc, but eh...I really take that worth a grain of salt due to my own experience. A friend of mine has a tattoo with color on her foot, and the color has faded quite a bit, so maybe black just keeps longer. I can tell you that I don't really look forward to the day it needs touching up, because it hurt quite a bit (the initial feeling was tolerable, but the second the needle was going over bones, it was highly uncomfortable), but luckily since it's quite small, it took a whole 10 mins. I think my tattoo took some time for DH to get used to when we first started dating (I'm not at all the tattoo "type"), but sometimes we laugh that it feels to us just like a mole or a freckle - my tat feels like part of my body's original markings.

Honestly, my tattooing advice is very simply 1) Choose something that will always have meaning to you, and something that has had meaning for a very long time. 2) Research your tattoo artist. Find someone whose work you love, who you trust, and who cares a great deal about safety and sterilization.

I have a tattoo and I wish I didn''t. I loved it so much when I got it. I''ve gotten loads of compliments on it but it''s just lost that special feeling to me. They fade and hardly any of them look as nice as a painting or really nice picture. I don''t know, I wouldn''t miss mine if it went away :) It''s not really something you can change, like nail polish, a hair color or a ring setting. My advice is to find something else, like a piece of jewelry to accessorize yourself with.

I''ve got one and I love it. I actually need to get it touched up because it''s faded. I also want to get another one, but I''m thinking white ink. I absolutely ADORE white ink tattoos. Unfortunately they''re harder to get and hurt more. UGGGGGH. But dang do I want one.

Hi MTG!
35.gif

Good luck with your tattoo!

I have 5, so far, and will get more as soon as I''m done with my chemo infusions. There are 4 on my upper back and 1 on my upper left breast. To me, they are addicting!
