There are several types of inclusions possible in SI or I diamonds. Which "type" of inclusion is LEAST interfering in terms of brilliance, fire and scintillation?

I find black inclusions to be most visible but least distracting to performance whereas feather, especially large size ones across the table, to interfere with light return the most.

Is that an accurate hypothesis?

I think a skilled cutter can minimize the effect inclusions have on performance.

Yes I agree.

I was thinking in the context of buying a SI or I diamond unseen. If the picture shows the inclusions clearly, what pattern of inclusions should consumers avoid? What is the less of the evils in the world of inclusions?

Translucent diamond crystals would be my first choice, this would include (translucent) crystals, needles, pinpoints and small clouds (groups of pinpoints). I would avoid cavities, knots, twinning wisps, large feathers and stacks of small feathers... Work closely with a trusted vendor to determine the visibility of the inclusions and be aware that the "color" of inclusions is affected by the light source and direction of the light source. Think Photography 101, if you take a picture of a person with the sun setting behind them without offsetting the sunlight with a flash, the person will "face up" dark, and the fact is that most clarity photographs are taken with the light behind the diamond

I don''t think you can tell black inclusions from the grade reports.

Not necessarily rb. Just diamond in general.
