Talk me off the ledge - nervous about custom design

One more question: do the double prongs tend to make a round look more squarish or cushiony?

If they are small and delicate they tend to blend more and disappear rather than add to the shape. A 6, 8 or 12 prong makes the stone visually appear larger, but the split prongs in the corner show more of the stone and make it more in your face as a central feature, so it shows the stone off more. I sold a 2.00 carat RB in a 6 prong and a 2.30 carat RB in a split prong and the setting made the 2.00 carat face up almost as big as the 2.30 carat when unset there was a big difference in size visually. If you like size (which I seem to remember you do) the 8 prong will add volume to the sides of the stone.....

Practical question, what is the girdle like on the stone? If its uber thin I would be putting it in the 8 prong for more protection, if not then go for it I love the new design its beautiful!!!!

I have an OEC with double prongs and it looks great and doesn't make it look cushiony. The prongs were done by Steven Kirsch and are very delicate.

Thanks junebug and arkieb1!!! :wavey: I may start a reset thread in RT or of these days.

Thanks arkieb! That's good to know. Do I like size??? :naughty: :lickout:

The girdle is in great condition...not too thin or anything.

OMG...just went and looked at the ring your are talking about and those prongs are TDF!!! I hope mine turn out that delicate!

armywife - I am so glad to hear you are keeping that beauty! I have admired that stone on the JbEG website for a long time. I can't wait to see how you decide to reset it. I am curious what it is you are not liking about the Julia bezel?

Thanks, valmanin! I love the design of the Julia bezel. my issue is that when I compare picture of the 3.62 loose and in a prong setting to pictures of it in the bezel, the center appears darker in the bezel. Plus I have been drooling over all of the gorgeous vintage/vintage inspired settings on here, so now I want one. ;)) Haha.

So, have you decided to go ahead with your setting design? I can't wait to see the CADs, and hopefully finished setting. I think the fact that you designed the setting will make the ring even more special. :))

Well, I can say I have decided to go ahead with the CAD...at least as of today, but with the holiday weekend I could change my mind by Tuesday. :naughty:
