If they are small and delicate they tend to blend more and disappear rather than add to the shape. A 6, 8 or 12 prong makes the stone visually appear larger, but the split prongs in the corner show more of the stone and make it more in your face as a central feature, so it shows the stone off more. I sold a 2.00 carat RB in a 6 prong and a 2.30 carat RB in a split prong and the setting made the 2.00 carat face up almost as big as the 2.30 carat when unset there was a big difference in size visually. If you like size (which I seem to remember you do) the 8 prong will add volume to the sides of the stone.....
Practical question, what is the girdle like on the stone? If its uber thin I would be putting it in the 8 prong for more protection, if not then go for it I love the new design its beautiful!!!!
