I have a pair of earrings made out of beetle wings very much like this.
I don't wear them, they are for sale in my booth at the antique mall. I'll take a photo when I get a chance.

I don't know that I could wear a whole beetle... I have a hard enough time with pearls.

Does it biodegrade over time?

That-s a bit far out for me, personally, but I love ammolite, which also was a creepy crawly thing one time.

No way...

Well, we use mother-of-pearl, which is pretty much made up of the protective 'exoskeleton' of an organism, and we drink from bone china, made from actual bones, so why not? ;) :D

I'd do something "preserved" in resin like amber but I'm too squicked to wear a bug in any other fashion.

And don’t forget, some people wear
Amber like Chrono said, with bugs in it. I just wonder if the color fades over time, since it is a very organic material.

Some insects and arachnids have the most amazing colors and iridescence, they look like pieces of jewelry. I’m just awed that he can capture this in a piece to wear. It’s definitely a conversation piece at the very least.

A hummingbird has the most amazing feathers but I still wouldn't wear it.

Some people adorn themselves with feathers though. Peacock feathers were quite the rage at one time.

Beetle wing earrings. I guess it’s not as gross if it’s just the wings.

Sorry, but that just bugs me.

I love all of these! Such beautiful iridescent colors!

but then, I love ammolite, amber, and fossil jewelry :P

its really beautiful.
id wear it (if the bug died of natural causes)

Live bugs is a bit too much even for me!!!!

I wouldn’t mind an art nouveau dragonfly though (fake bug).

The bugs died naturally in this case. He gets them from a friend in Japan who breeds them, and when they die, he sends them over to this jewelry artist.

I think most of the "color" for beetles, like for butterfly wings, is structural and not pigment-based. So it's actually from light interference from the nanostructure (like microscopic ridges or layers or scales). So it shouldn't "fade" -- but if the structure degrades, there's no pigment to carry on the color.

I just saw gold gilt bumblebee wings still attached to the bee!!

Here are the earrings. The hoops are sterling. I found them at a thrift store. I knew what they were right away. (Of course the thrift store didn't)
The color is beautiful.
I'm waiting for some edgy young lady to fall in love with with them.IMG_20191026_164622341.jpg
