Taking an Informal Poll: Three Stone WF ACA and VC CER Emilya or vice versa?

Okay, the milgrain bezel 3 stone is going to be better with antique cut stones, in my opinion. But that's because I prefer antique cut stones in antique style settings. That generally will mean having matching side stones custom cut if going for newly cut OECs.

Even if you want to get two more rings, is there some reason you are opposed to the Canera antique cushions in one of his halos? Because I just can't see wanting all my diamond rings to have round, white diamonds. I think the cushion halo is much better for a right hand ring than a round solitaire with halo (which looks most like an engagement ring).

If this offer of two rings was made to me, and I already had a modern round engagement ring diamond, I'd want the OECs for the three stone and the antique cushion for the right hand ring in a cushion halo with split shank. (And I'm going to recommend platinum over white gold while I'm listing preferences!)

I agree with everything DS says!:-)

Thanks, ladies! I tend to agree on the antique stone / antique-style mounting observation. It is regrettable that the uniqueness of the OEC / CEC facets won't show as well in a smaller stone, but I could always do a larger stone in a pendant down the road. I have considered a cushion, but I will admit that I have a fondness for pears, and may ultimately opt for one (again, with VC doing the work on a halo for it). My preference in metals is for platinum, as well, but my wife tends to prefer 18k white gold because of how she experiences the weight differential.

Pave really should be set in platinum if you ever get one of Victor's settings. Victor explains why on his site. It is longer lasting because gold wears away over time and has to be replated. Thin settings are not noticeably heavier than platinum anyway. Only in really heavy settings can you feel the difference. But I personally think the weight of platinum is more luxurious than white gold. In fact, the only exception to doing platinum with Victor is if someone is doing a yellow or rose gold piece.

I agree that 3-5 ct OECs are super fun to see, but I would definitely say the sizes of stones you are looking at all could be in antique cuts. There are many members here with OECs or AVRs or CERs in the one carat range. You can definitely see the larger facets. But I do have H&A stones for my earrings, so it is just a matter personal preference.

diamondseeker2006 - Thanks for the additional thoughts vis-a-vis white gold versus platinum. I wear a 7 mm platinum wedding band, and I think that's what she thinks of when she thinks of platinum. I'll have her try on some delicate settings so she can get comfortable with the idea.
