I finally took in my Mom's 2.3ct Tiffany to be sized today after having it in vault for two years. I posted on another thread about my inherited pieces and what to do with them and decided to have one set sized and see if I ever wear it.
I would like an opinion my experience there.

First: They charged 100+ per ring to size [platinum]. Is that a lot?
and...
when they took the rings in they handed me a receipt with my name on it and "two tiffany rings for resizing" and that was it.
Because of something I read here, I thought that was pretty vague and told them I wanted a photo and the carat weight. They were kind of grouchy about it, but they did it. How much information should a jeweler put on a receipt for something he/she has taken in?

They are sizing it down 2 sizes.

Price is about right. I have actually left a lot of reputable places with barely a receipt (not suggesting this is right).

You can ask them to put down from what size to what size is the sizing for.

That makes me feel better.

I would think writing down more info would protect them too.
One time I had a 0.7 ct sized at a Mall. I picked it up, then opened it later -& there was a really big diamond in the box!
some mix up. I went right back - but there could have been a lot more confusion if I didn't

Agree with Charmypoo = price is about right (most T&Co boutiques also now send repairs like that to NYC, instead oh handling it locally).

But I would that a more detailed receipt should have been issued - that's too vague for my liking!

Good luck :)

recently had a ring resized smaller with "speed bumps"

Anyway, the gal took the ring to a large magnifying glass.
Then carefully wrote down on paper everything she noted about the ring
(and spent a long time doing it, too)
Then I signed the paper.

I paid not quite 100 but almost.
The work was excellent.

Not to make you feel concern,
That's my only experience, I would certainly go back to them, too.

I dropped off a pair of rings for re-sizing last weekend, and the size, colour, and clarity were recorded, and the gemologist also wrote down all of the info from the girdle. And then also asked me to fax over a copy of the certificate. It was a lot of info, for sure! And my cost is about $100/ring, so that sound about right to me.

Did you take your mom's ring to a Tiffany's store for re-sizing? Maybe that makes a difference?

Platinum costs more to resize than gold, because it should be laser welded. Price seems right.

I would definitely ask for more documentation than that on the diamond before handing it over. It's easy if there's a serial number or other identifier inscribed on the girdle, but otherwise enough of a gemological inspection/documentation to confirm the diamond you get back is the same one you dropped off. That's why it's handy sometimes to have eye clean inclusions you can readily find with a loupe.

They did end up taking a photo and writing down the carat weight...also this is a well-loved diamond that has a tiny scratch on the table, which is noted in the appraisals. So I felt comfortable leaving it with them. I was just surprised by the lack of detail since
when they set my daughter's 0.33 for her they wrote down every last detail.

Thanks, everyone. I think I was more concerned about the price for sizing that getting back the right stone
