Tacori setting price? Help!

I've researched Tacori settings quite extensively recently. My boyfriend and I were ready to make our purchase when I was offered the setting at a cheaper price. I was under the impression that Tacori settings cannot be discounted and they sell only for the retail price set by Tacori themselves. The dealer seems to have really great reviews on multiple websites as well as the BBB and has assured me that the setting comes with all the warranties that Tacori offers. However, I searched Tacori's authorized dealers and they are not on the list on the tacori website. Also they do not show any Tacori settings on the website at all. No mention of Tacori rings. Is it possible that certain dealers may be able to get the Tacori settings through other authorized dealers? Is this really to good to be true? We were planning on getting the diamond through this dealer as the prices are really good and a friend used them in the past. i wanted to get the setting from a more local jeweler so i would be able to visit the store more conveniently if needed for repairs, cleaning and what not. But if the price is cheaper and the setting is really coming with all warranties I wanted to check it out. I do plan on asking them a bunch of other questions regarding this but figured I would see what everyone here on PS thinks. I've read through many topics in the forums over the last few months and the advice I see given is always spot on. Please respond with any thoughts you have on this.

Hello! As someone who owns Tacori, something doesn't add up right with what your jeweler is telling you compared to how things typically are with authorized Tacori retailers. From my experience, you MUST go through an authorized Tacori retailer for everything. And unfortunately, Tacori isn't easy to get in contact with on your own. I would suggest finding a different authorited retailer to confirm that your jeweler is or isn't one also. If you send a private message to Tacori on Facebook, you probably can find out that way also.

Good luck and keep us posted!!

I find that very strange, too. Tacori authorized dealers are going to let that be known on their websites. And I would think they would be listed on the Tacori site, although I have never looked on there to see if AD I know of are listed there.

Ask the question whether your stone will be sent to Tacori to set and will they make your ring there in your size. I have seen jewelers sell sample Tacori settings and resize them in-house and set the stones in-house, and that does not mean they are Tacori dealers. It just means they bought sample rings somewhere and are offering their own warranty, whatever that may mean.

But in regard to your discount question, there are many designers that try to make dealers sell at retail, but I can tell you that discounts (often small) are available if you search long enough.

Thank you so much for your input. I emailed the jeweler back and he said the setting is not from they're store but from a jeweler that is an authorized dealer. He said the diamond would be ordered through Tacori with the correct size and that he would set the diamond in his store. The ring would not be returnable. I know that custom settings are not returnable from most places anyway but after reading your responses and listening to my gut the obvious answer is to purchase directly through an authorized Tacori dealer. That being said my boyfriend and I went to the local jewelers this evening and brought the diamond certificate with us. Which by the way is EGL international. I thought that we would still go with the online company for the diamond bc the local B&M would most likely be to high priced but after speaking with the local jeweler we decided to give him a chance to get us a diamond priced closely to what we were offered. Which he claims he can do. He also turned me off a little to EGL International. Apparently he deals mostly with GIA and EGL USA. he prefers GIA but said EGL USA has tightened up they're grading quite a bit the last few years and he is comfortable selling they're graded diamonds now. So they are going to get together 3-5 diamonds and the BF will be going back next Thursday to see what they offer!! So excited its getting close. What do you guys think about EGL International? (Sorry for the long post lol)

EGL International is very, very unreliable grading. EGL USA is better but not reliable like GIA. Honestly, I'd call him back and say GIA only. You are much more likely to overpay with EGL grading because the true grades are often a lot lower than you think.

And excellent decision to buy the Tacori setting from an AD!

Oh, and tell him you want to see GIA Excellent cut only.

I think I will do that and call tomorrow and speak with him again. I trust the jewelers reputation for sure but the letters EGL are making me nervous altogether! No matter where from! The setting holds a diamond between 1.25-1.75ct. We are really hoping to get a diamond between 1.5-1.75ct. If he can't do that in GIA for a reasonable price I' ll have to try and find a diamond online or elsewhere. I do have about a week to find a few to compare so maybe I'll do that just to be prepared to show him what else we've found. Do any of you have any thoughts on an average price for the following specs.:

CUT- Excellent/Ideal
COLOR-no lower than (H) I would imagine. (G might b better?)
CLARITY- VS2-SI1.(we would even consider a SI2 as long as it was eye clean)
CARAT- 1.5ct - 1.75ct.

If no thoughts on prices do you have any thoughts on the specs that I should change? The diamond on the band are G/VS2. I am currently looking at the Tacori 2620 but also put down the Tacori HT2510 and am considering just having my BF make the final decision when he places the order. I love both and it's getting a little stressful deciding :)

Let me ask you something. What color was the EGL International stone you looked at?

Wow that was fast! thanks for all the examples here. It awesome :) I'm going to take a look at now.
The original diamond from The web EGL International was a 1.60ct. D/SI1. He said it is extremely white, bright and a clean SI1. A triple Excellent (cut/polish/symmetry) a 7.5mm spread.

gret finds.. beautiful stones.
