Tacori prong and setting questions!

Hello! For those of you who have been following me, I've realized what my issue with my wedding set really boils down to - I miss my original Tacori engagement ring. When I first upgraded my wedding set to diamond bands, I really wanted that sparkle factor that my original set lacked. I also wanted wider bands in general. Now that I've been wearing my new set for a few years, I have grown to really miss the sentimental value and overall character that my engagement ring had. I'm considering have my diamond set back into my original e-ring and keeping the diamond bands on either side. It will be a mix of bling with beautiful engraving. I plan to have the e-ring enlarged and engraving touched up. My questions are as follows:

1. These pics that I attached aren't the best, but how do you think the set will look together once the diamond is put back in, the e-ring is sized up some, and the engraving is touched up?

2. I was looking at some solitaire pictures in one of the show-me threads, and I came across my Tacori engagement ring with the engraving on the side and heart cut outs in the crown...it looked exactly like mine but the prongs were taller and the diamond sat up higher in the setting. I would LOVE that. Does anyone know if Tacori could increase the height of my prongs somehow with my current ring?

Thanks for your help and opinions!

what a beautiful solitaire! I can see why you miss it!

I like it with one of your bands, but im undecided if i like it with a band on either side...

I dont know about the prong though, just wanted to say that looks beautiful :wavey:

Thanks for your input, Niel!

While I love your orginal solitare setting I'm still in the camp that you can't wear 2 bands with it. It is over-powering. However with that said- who the heck cares! if it is what you like and want then go for it.

Any more feedback PS'ers? Please please!! :)

Hi meganmomma,

When I was shopping for my tacori a few months ago, I asked the jewellery how much customization Tacori could do and was told that Tacori can do just about anything, for a price. :? But I'm not sure they could alter your current ring to be higher, your best bet is to go to your jeweller and find out. Your Tacori is lovely btw, what style # is it?

As for your wedding set, I have to say I love those knife edge bands with pave, fantastic. I think you have to decide whether the height difference between the bands and the e-ring will bother you. Also, does the pave on the wedding bands rub against the e-ring? If it does, it could eventually eat away the metal (which is probably why you're asking about changing the height of the e-ring). I think you could wear the knife-edge bands with a non-knife edge e-ring no problem, just worried about protecting the integrity of your set.

Can I ask where you got your wedding bands?

Hi, maccers! Thank you so much for your feedback!! I am assuming that Tacori will charge me both to size the e-ring up 1 size (not sure how much that costs) and hopefully they won't charge TOO much to alter the prong height, though I have no idea. If the prongs can be made a little higher, then the height difference between the e-ring and knife-edge bands will be greater, which would be ideal. If I don't have that altered, the lower set e-ring will probably bother me some, but I'm hoping that all of the other pros will out-weight that.

My bands are from Shane Co. They all have SI 1 or better clarity diamonds, with at least G-H color, and are well cut.

I'm not sure what the item number is on the Tacori ring. I looked recently on their newly designed website and can't find it anymore, but I do know that many places that sell Tacori still sell it.

Thanks again for your feedback! Do you know, from your experience, how much it costs to have a diamond set into one of their rings from a different ring?

This is the ring I am basing the new prong height off of, from "njc":

I think the height of the head on your ring is part of the design. I don't think they can raise the prongs without remaking the entire head, which I would assume would be expensive. Some of Tacori's rings have heads that are wayyyyy too high. This results in diamonds getting banged against things much more often. I think the head of your ring looks like a perfect medium height. And I like it worn with one band. I think a diamond gets lost when there are two wide bands on either side of the e-ring. I personally would only wear the two bands when I didn't want to wear the e-ring. I love your Tacori setting!!!!

They may not charge you for re-sizing...I had mine resized about a month ago and there was no charge but we bought it recently (versus several years ago).

To clarify, you're think of increasing the prong height but not the height of the entire head? I"m wondering if your diamond would be less secure because of the increase in height will leave more of the stone exposed? Also, that's an integrated head from the looks of it which means the entire head/gallery would need to be raised, I believe. And there's still the issue of the pave from the bands eating into the shank and gallery of the e-ring. I would take the entire set in to the jewellers and ask them to evaluate it based on how you would be wearing it.

As for setting a different stone into the Tacori, we bought our own stone (an OEC) and had them set it...I believe it was $275-300 CDN. I'm not sure if that amount was a fixed charge from our jeweller (who is an authorized Tacori dealer) or if that's Tacori pricing. Most likely there would be additional charge to have the stone un-set from another setting too (maybe $30-50 but that depends on your jeweller; prices can vary a lot). If you have a good relationship with your jeweller, they may choose to waive/reduce some of these costs.

Let us know what the outcome is!

maccers - thanks for your advice/info! I just want to increase the height of the prongs, not the whole head. Or, at the very least, update the prong tips or something, to make them look more fresh and cleaned up. Ideally, I would love the prongs heightened, but if that's not possible, cleaning up the prongs and making them look nice would be 2nd best.

My knife-edge bands definitely sit up higher than typical wedding bands. The good thing about that is that they add nice dimension, and I can see the diamonds much more clearly since they are angled (like when I am typing, for example). However, that obviously also means that they are higher, which affects what you can see of the sides of the e-ring. The ring is about 1 full size too small, so I think increasing that size will help, because right now it's hard to even get the ring on to wear around with a band on either side as I'm deciding what I should do.

Soooo, basically to sum it up, I love my 2 diamond bands, and I LOVE and miss my engagement ring. I really hope to figure out a solution to make it all work together.

I added some pictures of more views. Again, not the best quality, but hopefully you get the idea. The side view seems to be what everyone is concerned about. How do you feel now? The e-ring definitely isn't the highest setting in the world, and the bands do come up some, but I would like to think that with the e-ring being enlarged a full size with "potential" prong alterations, it wouldn't be an issue?!

Sound off!!!! Thanks! :)

Oh and thanks diamondseeker2006!! I definitely see your point. I don't want the prongs to be too high either. And maybe just getting the ring the appropriate size for my finger will enhance everything enough. Sometimes I find myself thinking that good jewelers can do anything, so why can't they just solder on some taller prongs? Easy enough, right?! Yeah, I know - silly and probably crazy thinking. ;)
