Hey everyone..

I am changing the setting for my RB diamond and it's making my head spin. As I mentioned a while back I ALWAYS wanted a cushion cut stone with a halo and my FI wanted a round solitaire. We compromised and purchased a RB halo ring. My heart still longs for a cushion...oh well not gonna happen any day soon.......that being said - I am going to change the round halo that I currently have to a cushion shape halo to give more of that cushion shaped effect.

My dream setting was originally the Tacori 2620...HOWEVER after much shopping around I am afraid the small micro pave stones of the 2620 are perhaps too small and will not give that full on cushion look that I really want especially since my center stone is 2 carats and I read that this setting looks the best or was designed mostly for stones up to 1.5 carats. I went to GOG today and spent a ton of time in the store with a ton of very patient people :)...the rep I worked with showed me a way to tweak the setting to make the micro pave around the center diamond look completely even all around - NOT covering up any of the melee (since it bothered me that the center stone seemed to cover some of the pave making the top and bottom pave on the halo look more narrow than the pave on the side of the halo - make sense?!). I would change it a bit so the center stone does not hover over the pave but instead the micropave diamonds stick out as much as they can around the center...

I am also going to request double claw prongs because I think this may also help camouflage the round into the cushion setting. What are your thoughts on this? Would you leave the 2620 as is or make these changes?!

For reference here is a link to the 2620 of a similar spec diamond as mine posted by another PS'er!

OR should I just go for something like this:

Thank you all for your time!!

I voted OTHER... I found gorgeous settings (see link below) and they have high quality stones in them, plus 30 day returns no questions asked. I used them before and I liked the service.

I am in the same boat as you. I have an OEC cushiony hand cut tranny diamond but i also want to emphasize the cushion shape, so I am too looking for settings for 2 years now. :wavey:

I voted for the Simon G, but my favorite is the one by Sareen that Mayk has... it's stunning and even though I usually dislike halo settings on diamonds, I am in love with it.

Quite frankly, I don't think you'd like the Tacori as it will only look cushiony from the top... from all the normal viewing angles for the person who's wearing the ring, the roundness of the stone will still be readily apparent because it gets set so high.

Definitely the Tacori with your changes. I totally understand what changes you're going for, I think it's a great idea!

+1

Was your diamond purchased from a vendor that allows trade-ins? I think you really want a cushion and I am not sure if this reset is really going to satisfy that desire. (The next time he needs a new car, you go buy him what YOU want and maybe he'll get the idea. ;)) )

That said, I love the Tacori, but I like it exactly like the one in that link you gave us. I understand the change you are talking about, but I don't think of that setting as a halo and I am not sure that making the under diamonds stick out more is going to really look right.

As far as a micropave cushion halo goes, I'd have Victor Canera or Steven Kirsch make that.

Unfortunately, we purchased the ring preowned, so we don't really have a vendor to work with. Actuallyyyy we were offered the opportunity to trade my stone in for a 2 carat AVC but my FI just did not want me too :(...I know I sound spoiled but I want what I want!!! I will definitely have an AVC one day but until that time these are my options. I went to a jeweler today to look at some alternatives and compare them side by side with the TAcori as it stands without any changes. I am going to post those on another thread for another poll...thank you so much for posting the other option's above..While I think they are beautiful alternatives I really want the transition from the round to the halo to look seamless and not like it is an obvious round in a cushion halo :/...this may not be possible the more I think about it!

I vote the 1910.
