Table Glare - is this normal?

Hi All,

I recently purchased an ER from Blue Nile (it arrived yesterday!!). I love the ring, but I'm concerned about the diamond. The more I look at it the more I notice glare coming from the table, and it really detracts from the fire. It's most noticeable when at an angle of 45 degrees. Is this a normal thing? Is this something I should be concerned about?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Yup, very normal.

I particularly like pics at those 'halfway' angles where half the table is bright and half isn't, like your first pic

If you smudge up the table a bit, it won't glare as much.

Yes, that is normal.

Can you imagine a situation where a large flat facet like that would not glare?

The only reason you don't see more photos of diamonds with table glare here on PS is that people tend to pick photos without the table glare. But it is totally normal.

I do find it easier to see any fingerprints or other crud on my diamond when I look at it with the light glaring on the table.

The glare is normal - after all you have a flat surface which is reflecting light back. The bigger the table, the bigger the glare. Usually, this type of pictures are not posted on PS because nobody wants to see the glare and rather see the smaller facets flashing or be able to see the diamond clearly. In any case, your ring is not static, so this glare will come and go and now be termed "big bold flash".
