I have been talking to a couple online diamond dealers about stone that interest me. Some of the stones, although they have an excellent HCA score, have a big table (60-61%). Some of the dealers have said that they table area is too big. Is that true? How does a big table affect the diamond? Should I shy away from a diamond with a big table even if it has an HCA score less than 2?

I think a stone looks more balanced with a slightly smaller table. It is a shame when a big table takes away from the crown of the diamond. I look for 54-58% tables and would not go higher than 58, personally.

I prefer smaller tables. I wouldn't buy a diamond with a table that large.

I also like the more balanced stone. I'm not into small tables on diamonds or large ones. Guess that is why I am mostly a fan of H&A stones that fit specific perimeters.
