Hi All,
Newbie here. My boyfriend asked me what type of engagement rings I liked! (What?!!) So of course I went into research mode. Luckily I found you all! Through you I learned about Victor Canera. I'm Swooning for his 5 stone emerald cut diamond ring and will show it to my BF as my dream ring. I'm hoping for 1.5 - 2 carats. I'm wondering if anyone knows what this ring in this style runs for from VC? I'm worried my BF will faint when he sees the price tag.
I've also realized that my favorite cut, emerald is very tricky and there is a lot to know about the specs of the diamond. Do you have recommendations for me about what to look for? I know that clarity is important to me and that it's clean to the eye. I want to see if we can get more bang for our buck and buy online but there is so much to look for when selecting an emerald cut which is a bit overwhelming. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Well, let's do it this way: what do you suppose is a realistic budget? Are you both established? Just starting out? debt? Jobs? Etc.

I also love Victor's work.

We'really both in our late 30's and this will be our first marriage. I would say our budget would be between $11,000 - $14,000. Thanks for your input. I guess I'm wondering if I should continue dreaming of VC or should I start exploring other options such as pre-made settings from Blue Nile.

VC settings are gorrrrgeous but also super expensive (I'd guesstimate ~$5k+ since the side stones may need to be custom cut). Since emerald cuts don't face up all that large for their weight, I'd honestly suggest putting most of your budget into your center stone in a simpler setting and maybe saving to upgrade into that VC setting for an anniversary or something.

I agree -get the best possible stone first then work on the setting.

Thank you for your thoughts. We are just at the beginning stages of the discussion. I will consider your ideas and maybe come back to discuss further as we consider diamond choices. :)
