If one were to purchase a stone with a four-year-old GIA report, would it be odd to have it sent to AGS (instead of back to GIA) for a fresh report? It''s a branded ideal, and it would get a Sarin as well.

Sure it's reasonable. Unlike GIA, a dealer with an AGSL account has to send your stone, or you have to send it with the dealer's permission on their account. There are tradeoffs vs. a thorough analysis by a good appraiser. With the appraiser you'll get personal service, a valuation for insurance, and topics addressed not covered in a lab report; a report from AGSL or GIA is widely recognized, e.g. in case you're trying to sell. Would you be happy to discover that your GIA ex/ex could be an AGSL 1 or 2 cut?
