Surprise Stones

My SO was thinking one of the things we could do with his wedding band is having some surprise stones set on the inside of the band. (My birthstone, his birthstone, the birthstone for the month we are getting married in)

Is this something we could do with an already-bought band? Or would we have to get this custom made?

I guess it would depend on how thick the metal is. I have seen other members post that they have done just that. I just picked up my eternity band from my jeweler. It has a small sizing bar on the back. I had him place a 3mm yogo sapphire with a thin 18k yg bezel on the outside of the platinum sizing bar. I will be posting pics sometime today.
