Along the same lines as this thread https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/most-flattering-settings-for-puffy-fingers.212190/ ; I have similar issues as some of those posters do. My fingers are such that the flesh at the base is wider than my knuckles and my fingers swell and shrink a fair bit based on weather/humidity, food, etc. Given this, a 2mm band that is sized large enough that it won’t create a major muffin-top in August humidity after drinking a margarita, would then be so large it will go flying off my finger in the winter. Even when my fingers are at their smallest, those dainty bands still don’t look quite right on me. But those dainty rings seem to be the majority of what is out there or maybe I’m looking in the wrong places because I like the way they look on other people and I keep wanting them to work for me too. But they don’t, so I’m hoping I’m just looking in all the wrong places and PS-ers can point me in the direction of settings that are wider than 2mm (though preferably not more than 3mm so I can still stack with a band).

I would love to find a solitaire with a twist on a 2.5mm+/- band in platinum. I like designs that have more flowing/curvy lines like OCgirl’s new OEC solitaire (https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/my-jbg-2-28-ct-oec-in-a-solitaire-setting.212044/ ) or Haven’s ring from Burdeen’s (https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/its-here-its-here-my-2-30-ct-omb-antique-cushion-upgrade.158760/ ) and I don’t care for knife-edge shanks, but I am open to any suggestions. I would prefer to work with an existing design/stock-type setting if possible, as opposed to going completely custom, because I’m not a huge fan of surprises and want some element of control over the final product.

Thank you!

I would say that any of the existing designs from jewelers like Jewels by Grace or Erica at Love Affair diamonds can be adapted to have a slightly wider shank. That is your best option to accomplish that since they have each ring individually made. But I will also add that I don't see increasing width to 2.5 mm making any difference in your situation. There is very little difference in 2 and 2.5mm. Have you tried on different width rings in the coldest part of winter when rings are most loose to see what really works?

Sort of - I have a 2mm band from T&Co and a 3.2mm Scott Kay band that are about the same size on the mandrel and I most definitely prefer the way the wider band looks on its own. When I asked about having the T&Co band sized up a bit to minimize the muffin-top, I was told they would prefer not to do it because they felt it would be too big at that point.

When trying on settings locally, the ones I've liked best have been around 2.5mm wide, but one was a Michael B (Petite Crown Lace) that was over $6k and that is not in the budget right now. I'll have to ask Erica if her settings can be made wider - her Sophie setting has been a favorite of mine for years. I was just hoping to find something that was ready made in a wider width because other vendors (*cough*vatche*cough*) have quoted me double the original cost to have something made wider. I'm ok with an upcharge for something to be tweaked a bit, but twice the price just seemed a bit too much.

Thank you!

I am the puffy fingered girl that started that first thread. I have been trying on lots of styles. I prefer a more substantial setting too. But I will say, that being wider doesn't solve the puffy finger problem at all. Honestly, I felt like the wider the band got, the more it accentuated the puffiness of my fingers. But that could also be because everything in the stores are 6.5-7 and I prefer a 7.5. But I have found that somewhere in the neighborhood of 2.5-3mm (for the engagement ring and wedding band) is kind of my sweet spot. And I think that cathedral settings are more flattering than straight bands that are just hugging the finger.

Yeah, I think the one thing to remember with the wider bands is that they fit more snugly than thinner bands. So if you sized your finger as a 7 with a thinner band, you will very likely want a larger size for the wider band in order to be more comfortable.
