FINALLY! 134 days after the brain team of Delta and Virgin Australia lost my original (read: irreplaceable) Lora Zombie painting, my claim has been settled and I received my funds. :appl:

Countless calls. Most unreturned. Countless emails. Most ignored. I finally got mega pissed 3 weeks ago, and as the Australians say, spat the dummy. I wrote a letter demanding settlement by the 14th of June, as LZ was having a show in Brooklyn and releasing 60 new paintings. I wanted my claim paid so I could finally replace what was lost. I attacked in every direction: phone, email, website, and their FB page. Every day. They finally awarded it on June 13. Still not in time - the originals actually went on sale ahead of the show, on the 12th, and were sold out 5 hours prior to settlement.

Regardless, I have my money. Thank goodness. What a nightmare experience.

PSA: Never, ever travel without insurance (I had cover, but extended my trip to spend longer with my brother after my SIL passed away, and completely forgot to extend my travel insurance as well).

I am sorry you lost a painting, that is absolutely tragic. But at least you got your money back.

Also be careful with insurance, especially with artwork. Some insurances won't cover it. I found that out the hard way when I shipped a 1200 painting I did to a client and it arrived with a puncture wound. UGH nightmare, and it wasn't covered since it was art, and the 1200 price tag was subjective :angryfire: :angryfire: :angryfire: :angryfire: :angryfire: :angryfire:

Oh my goodness, that would be terrible! Paying the premiums and then not actually receiving the cover. :angryfire: Perhaps it would be easier on my end, the end of the purchaser? I had the original receipt, in addition to the fact that the pricing list of all the new releases clearly reflected that the costs were only going up - which was another grumble. Since it took so long to have the claim settled, I won't ever be able to replace at that amount. Her large canvases were already about $500 higher, and will no doubt be even more at the next show.

What were you able to do in your situation? Was the piece a complete loss? :blackeye:

Ugh...I'm so sorry this happened to you, but glad you got your $$ back finally. I <3 Lora Zombie's work, but don't own any pieces. Truth be told, I can't afford her original stuff (I SO want Punk Love, Princess Punk and Skull), but I plan on getting some prints.

ckrikket - that's awful!

I understand about the pricing! It's only going up. I started with 4 prints, then when I saw this one particular original I HAD to have it. I loved it more than any other painting I had ever seen. I imagined explaining to my non-existent future daughter what it meant, and how it's important for you to be who you are, no matter what everyone else is like. Replacing it will likely not happen - I have yet to see another that makes me feel half as much as that one did. :nono:

At least I can use the money to have my print framed. My brother spoke to the team at Eyes on Walls and had a life-sized print made and personalised by LZ for me. Framing costs are ungodly expensive here (my 4 prints remain 'naked' because the cheapest quote I received was $220 EACH, for $60 prints! ).

I did see that Eyes on Walls have a sale on their mini art blocks - my mom bought a couple of LZ ones that I saw at Christmas, and they look lovely. Ready to hang. I'd get them myself, to cut out the cost of framing, but they don't ship them to Australia. I think US/Can flat rate is like $8/order and the blocks are on sale for $25 right now, if you're wanting to buy soon.

Framing is SO expensive! I have $30 print of the Chicago skyline circa 1927 that I paid almost $400 to frame (and that was at 60% off!)!!!!!

I do like the art blocks, but I think they're much smaller, no?

I'm not certain - I assume you are right, based on their description of 'mini.' That being said, I know the ones my mom had looked substantial, not out of place singly, on the wall. I should ask her how big they are.

Yay JG! Glad you got your money but it stinks that it was not in time to get something to replace the one that was lost.

Thank you, redwood. I am just thankful for it to be over - more time to spend doing enjoyable things! :))

And in case anyone stumbles across my stolen painting (it couldn't have been lost - my name, address, and phone number was written on its box twice, in permanent marker), this is it:

I would love to have it back, and will happily repay the claims money if it is ever found (obviously a minuscule possibility, but thought I'd put it out there).
