Last time I was at my jeweler-he told me I could take part Mr. Clean part water and it would have the same effect as my bottled ring cleaner I get from the jeweler. In essence, he said, it is removing the soap and scum from the diamonds. I haven''t tried it because I don''t remember the ratios-has anyone tried this or does anyone know what I am talking about? Thanks!

Almost any kind of cleaning solution works...I use dawn dish detergent (just a drop), windex and water.

It will work, but the soaps and the ammonia based product that you got from your jeweler will both leave a film on the stone that attracts dirt.

There is a cleaning product called Gem Care Products that is vegitable based that will not leave a film. In addition the paste that comes with the Gem Care products will remove the tarnish from your metal.

You will be far better served by finding this product either in your local store or on the net.

So the cleaner for the actual gem is liquid? And then the paste is for the metal?

Can/should you use the gem care products in an US?
