Do you all think this could be made to look more yellow than brown? I’d set it in yellow gold and would probably put my 1.3 ct K diamond next to it (turn it into a 3 stone ring).

Have you seen IRL video? I love this color, but it's definitely more brown than yellow to me.

I have seen the video. No clue how to post it. But it def looks more brown than yellow in the video too. I’m wondering if setting it in yellow gold will help that though?

If you were sent the video them you can upload to you tube and post the link. Or just paste the link itself if it's from a website

Here’s the YouTube link.

YouTube did something weird to the video...

I think it's beautiful, but I'd want a video or pic of it on someone's hand. I worry that if you want yellow (not brown) you won't be happy. Since I prefer brown to yellow , I love it. But I think no matter what color gold you use, the brown will be pretty apparent

I’ve requested a 2nd video. The photo color is 100% ok with me. But you’re right about not being happy with it... thank you for your help. Hopefully I get that 2nd video soon.

I like it but it's more of a brownish green colour than a yellow. It honestly depends on the undertones in the stone in real life, yellow gold might make it appear more yellow or it might just contrast with it and make it look more brown.... You would have to get the stone or hold up metals next to it to be able to see.

It looks more brown. Really pretty! Can you get it and return if it doesn't work?

As Karl would say, how a diamond looks depends on lighting, lighting, lighting, lighting and cut :lol: so I imagine that any fancy colour stone will change its appearance a lot depending on where it is and what the light is like.

It looks like it's cut very nicely :) but I think in-person would be the only way to really accurately assess colour.

Thank you all for your input. I can’t figure out how to just tag people without quoting... The vendor said a second video would be pointless as it’ll look just like the video. I can order it but I’m going out of town for a little bit. It sounds like they expect it’ll arrive toward the end of my trip/ when I first get back. I can have it held off for when I know I’ll be back home but it’ll shorten my return period.

I’ve got to think about this for a second. If the vendor thinks it’ll look just like the video I wonder if it’s a no go.

Type the “@“ symbol immediately (no spaces) followed by their username.

Like this: “@winnietucker”

I don’t like the fact the vendor isn’t being accommodating with a second video, that would give me pause. The fact you are looking for it to be more yellow I would think they wouldn’t mind doing a comparison video for you

If you buy it, and the vendor holds on to it for a few days and then ships it - wouldn’t that allow you to have the entire return period for viewing?
I think it’s def worth bringing in to see.

What a lovely color. The problem seems to be that you want to make the dominant color, brown, seem to disappear to allow the modifying color, yellow, to be more dominant. In my experience, setting a light colored diamond of brown or yellow in yellow gold makes the stone seem whiter. Setting the stone in white gold or platinum will allow the color to stand out more, but it will not modify the color to take away the dominant brown color.

With a stone that is cut to emphasize the color and not light return you could possibly follow the advice of putting a yellow "cap" just under the stone to let the yellow influence the color. However this diamond appears to be cut for good light return, thus there will likely be little benefit for putting a yellow "cap" below the diamond, as this diamond will not be gathering light from below.

@the_mother_thing that’s easier than I thought. Thanks!

@KKJohnson I’ve sent them another email with more questions so I’m waiting for a response. I have it on hold until this evening.

@Rfisher They said any delay at my request will cut into my return period. It’s B2C, so they’ve got a decent return period but I feel like I’ll probably use the entire thing to figure it out.

@Wink Do you think this should be a pass? Nothing against brown. I know I’ll likely buy a yellow diamond with some brown in it, but I want it to be more yellow...

I am generally not a fan of brown or yellow colored diamonds, but this is a really, really pretty stone. if your heart wants yellow, this may not be the stone for you. I think you would have to love it for what it is, rather than trying to nudge it in one direction or another. That being said, I would be very interested to hear your impressions if you purchase to view it in person. There's something about this diamond that is very appealing.

Said very well

Thought a quick visual may help.

Just using a basic setting ... seeing the diamond in both yellow and white metals makes it look more green, to me. But it is a picture, which is not always representative of what a diamond looks like in person/hand.

Note: I did not enhance the pic of the diamond in any way except to resize & crop it.

But with the cert saying brown-yellow, isn't the dominant color yellow?

After reviewing this again on a different screen, you can see brown is the main color. Have you thought rose gold setting?

I don't know that it would make it look more yellow but there are some alloys of 18k gold which are brownish yellow and would match this stone really well. Also, I feel like the closeups and video may exaggerste the color, you won't really know til you see it in person.

I only wear yellow gold. It all matches a bracelet I was given as a baby.

The only way to tell the color is to buy it and see it in real life. Seeing it online is not the color you will see in real life. I bought a small M color light brown ideal cut diamond. I prefer a brown over yellow tone.. It looked silvery brown online. When I received it I couldn’t believe how white facing it is. I can only see the tint turned sideways next to my g diamond. If the days are counting down...buy it..have some white and yellow gold ready and place them next to it in all lights..indoors and outdoors. It’s a beautiful stone.

I think (not certain) that would be the case if it stated brownISH-yellow. As a lay person, I read “brown-yellow” to mean exactly that vs one color being more dominant than the other.

Could be, but I always understood it as brownigh-yellow just meant a lower percentage of brown than brown-yellow, and I've always thought that the last color mentioned was the predominant color?

@Rockdiamond can you help?

I think it looks more brown because it is. I think the vendor is possibly telling you this indirectly. If you are looking for a yellow looking stone I would not buy this one. Like Wink says, because it is cut for light return, not cut for color enhancement, this stone face up will look more white due to light reflection, not enhanceable with a cup underneath. The predominant tint (in this case brown yellow) will be pretty obvious. The stone will not turn more yellow than brown. I honestly suggest that if your heart wants yellow, search for a yellow with no brown tint to it. Look at Diamonds By Lauren for some good photos of yellow versus brown yellow and ask yourself what you REALLY want. I’ve made the mistake of trying to unsee something that is real, and it never really works. So for the money, I’d go for exactly what you desire. I’d pass on this (beautiful, but not yellow) stone.

If the returns are easy it could be worth seeing in person. My stone was from b2c also and looked more brown in the videos than in person. I was actually a little disappointed that it didn't have more of a honey color irl, it looks straight up light yellow. I have am old thread comparing video to irl photos i can look for later if you like
