Hi! What material are your studs set in? Sterling silver, white gold, or platinum? Thanks!

Bezel studs are 18K WG as I was worried that in platinum they might droop.

Tulip head studs are 20K rose/reddish gold because that was the colour I wanted

18kt WG for me. I like the look of shiny white metal, so platinum was out because it has a more dull look than rhodium WG; and I don't like the idea of setting diamonds in sterling silver.

I am not much help, I have yellow, rose and white gold studs.

Yes, I like the shiny white metal too. However, with diamond studs, the only thing you see are the prongs. Having the post platinum erases the allergic reaction some have to gold. They are hypoallergenic.

Mine are WG, though I usually prefer yellow gold. Platinum adds weight to the setting, so could be a problem for sensitive ears.

Definitely not sterling silver!

My white rounds (H SI1, 1.45ctw) are in platinum, and I also often wear them with emerald & diamond platinum jackets. My brand new yellow cushions (Y-Z, 3.01ctw) are in 18k yellow gold. I have a nickel allergy so don't do white gold earrings because it's just too easy for nickel to sneak into white gold, if any part is reclaimed etc.

Well, any studs I have are in 14k gold, of different colors. I have one pair of white gold studs made by DK and his 14k white doesn't need replating. The other pair came from WF as their 8 prong martini and so far, no replating necessary and they are several years old. I don't think you should consider silver, if you are.

My 2ctw studs, made by Brian Gavin, are set in white gold. They haven’t needed to be rhodium dipped since made 15 years ago. I lean toward platinum, but went with white gold for my earrings since they would not be as heavy.

3 ctw ACA I VS1 studs set in 14k white gold. She has no allergy issues, 14k is durable, the white setting complements the white brilliance of the stones, rhodium provides a layer of protection, re-plating is inexpensive and easy, and we find, rarely needed for earrings. 1.5 ct each are heavy enough, didn't want extra weight of platinum. 4 prong claw setting barely noticeable.

I'm sorry to threadjack... I have spent all my bling budget for this year already but my dad gave me as a gift a three stone ring which includes three natural black diamonds, one is 3,04ct, and the other two are 2,02 ct and 2,01 ct respectively. I wish to have the diamonds reset in a solitaire ring and a pair of earrings but in order to save money i was considering having the settings made in sterling silver for the time being, in order to enjoy them immediately, and later down the road maybe reset them in white gold. Do you guys think that this is not a good idea?

Make the prongs chunkier, maybe the fancy style ones like double prongs?
I have a silver ring from my mom, it's from the 70's. She wore it, I wore it and it took a couple of decades to wear down the chunky double prongs.
