Which would you think is more of a staple in jewelry? I need to decide which I want.

2 ctw studs or 1.50-2.00 ctw hoops?

If I go the stud route I am eyeing a mate to my current 1.02 I VS2 RB which is currently in a pendant. I just don't wear it very much and would definely get more use if it were a stud. I have a 1 ctw pair of studs now.

If I go the hoop route I would get a pair of the WF either 1.50 or have them make me a 2 ctw pair.

Help please, what would you do?

For me it'd be studs no question. Do you wear your 1ctw pair often? If not, why?

Yes, I wear them almost every day and I want a bigger pair.

Studs. I love the bling of the hoops (not to say they may not hit the "want" list at any given time!) but for a staple, I'd go studs. Especially if you love and wear yours all the time already - going for larger studs may be worth it for you.

Both are amazing and the WF huggies that DS just got were fantastic!

Well then, can't go wrong, esp. if you know you enjoy studs

I do think that studs are hardly ever inappropriate, even in the larger size you're looking at! Super blingy huggies OTOH can be too much sometimes IMO - I wouldn't wear huggies with sweats and a hoodie but studs, no problem ::)

Will you keep your 1ctw pair either way?

I would definitely say studs.... and 2ctw studs? Yes please! :naughty:

I have had these studs for 30+ years, so I will just keep them.

"Which would you think is more of a staple in jewelry? 2 ctw studs or 1.50-2.00 ctw hoops?"
Definitely, studs. However, I bet you will eventually get both, because both are essential.

"If I go the stud route I am eyeing a mate to my current 1.02 I VS2 RB which is currently in a pendant. I just don't wear it very much and would definely get more use if it were a stud. I have a 1 ctw pair of studs now.

Before you decide to get a matching diamond for your 1.02 I VS2 RB, first check the cut spec. If it is not as ideally cut as you want, ask yourself if you would be willing to sink in $$$$ to get another diamond like that. Remember, a 1ct I Vs2 ideal cut diamond will cost a lot of money (definitely more than 2ctw ACA huggies).

Next, ask yourself what size studs will be large enough for you. Also consider the possibility of jackets for size enhancement (whether they are for your 1ctw pair studs or new and larger pair). If you do not mind about jackets, will jacketing your current 1ctw studs be good enough size for you?

What would I do in your case? Assuming that the diamonds in your studs and your 1.02ct RB are not super cut, I would start fresh and get both. Since you already have some studs, I would get the 2ctw huggies first. In the future after you get the larger size studs, you can still count on your smaller studs as everyday earrings (no need to worry much about constant wear and cleaning).

In summary:
For everyday, 1ctw stds
For fancier occasions: larger size studs and 2ctw huggies.

Lastly, sell your 1.02 RB pendant if you do not wear it much.

Of course, if your 1.02 RB is of ideal cut, then by all means, get a matching diamond to make a honky pair and then get the huggies next round.

I vote studs for sure.

I would vote for studs.

Fancy is on to something: you do not *need* a 1ct diamond for your studs and financially I certainly wouldn't suggest it! That will run $7k or some such. You can get a pair of 1.5cttw studs AND huggies for that price (or close anyways).

If you do look for a mate focus on mm spread and not weight, maybe find a mater just under 1ct?

Oh, and I vote studs too for the versatility.

GOG has one that I am interested in. It is not an Ideal cut or branded diamond which I don't need because the one I already own is not. Mine is a well cut stone but I don't have a grading report on it. I can see arrows in it even without the viewer. Using the H & A viewer they are very clearly seen.

The good thing about the one he has is that it has his lifetime guarantee with it which is VERY unusual. It is not certed either but Jonathan gives it high marks. He has done all of the reports on it. So I would not be spending more than 4.3K to get a match. It is very close to the demensions of mine.

So should I?

I have studs and hoops. I wear the studs more often as they seem more casual.

studs!! esp since you've found your perfect match :p

Before you commit to stud setting (also charge for setting your own diamond), inspect the new diamond in person and with your own diamond side by side. Best is to buy the diamond (if 100% refundable for return) and check it out alongside with your own diamond for a few days. Examine them together under various lighting conditions, especially indoor. Take your time (within refundable period) examining and deciding in your own home. The lighting in the jewelry store can be very misleading. Besides, no matter how trustworthy or reputable the jeweler is and how thorough the paperwork/tests are, trust only your own judgement and preference for final decision. If you decide against the new diamond, you are out only the shipping fee. Advise is to find out beforehand all the fees such as shipping (for return), setting fee (can be a shock), and etc..

If you can limit the total expenses to under $5000 and be able to utilize your diamond (from unused pendant), then by all means, go for 2ctw studs.

Still, after you wear your large 2ctw diamond studs for a while, you will long for the 2ctw huggies. There will always be fancy occasions in which you wish you have a pair of more bling earrings. The situation is like clothing, handbags, and shoes. We always buy what is needed for everyday use, but we also buy some (not a lot) of fancier items for those special occasions.

Bright I think it sounds like a really good option for you! Call it out loose and compare to your own stone in person to be sure you are good with the match. I personally can accept less perfection in earrings than a ring, as evidence by my own OEC studs which are not *perfect perfect* matches when held next to each other, but when worn and appreciated in normal viewing conditions, they are just right!

Ohhh, fun choice! Certainly I would say go for the match to the one carat stone you already have and make the pair of studs. Then you can always get the hoops later! (I think both can be staples for some variety, but studs come first to me.) And I am not wearing my .80 solitaire pendant either and am trying to decide what to do with it!

I think I am going to take a look at it in person to see if it's a good match. I have wanted a 2 ctw pair of studs for a long time but I hate to spend a lot of money on them. I think this is a reasonable way to go if it works.

I have a pair of the Whiteflash 1.5ctw shared prong hoops coming along with the 1.02 RB diamond for a match to my stone for studs.

I figure it best to have them together to make a decision since they both have a 30 day return policy. Who knows, I may just get both and be done with it :naughty:
