Leonid,

Was that a discount to the price or premium? What about for 1.5-1.99 GHI.
Thanks

Diamonds above with fluorescence are cheaper than without (the average discount is shown in % to the same diamonds with no fluorescence). The only exception are I-K diamonds with Faint fluoro (+0.3%) but this is within an error margin.

F-H; VS-SI

1.5-1.99ct 2.0-2.99ct
Faint +0.3% -0.7%
Med -3.0% -3.1%
Strong -6.9% -4.9%

Perhaps the disconnect is my use of "industry". Beyond my little world, I have no interest in the big "industry" that may be debeers. To me, the consumer, the industry is the diamond dealers/retailers. They drive (or should

) the market via their demand. It was the retailers that got burnt the most with the scandal. I can remember our first diamond purchase 20++ years ago. We picked the stone out from a parcel. It had fluor. To me it spoke loud & clear; but, the jeweler made much over the fact that it fluorest - almost like a disclaimer. I, the consumer, had no issue.

So, I guess what I am saying is that it''s at the retailer''s level that this presumption of flaw exists to perpetuate itself.

Funny, the secondary market (estate or whatever) is less concerned about it & more concerned about "look" which for the most part sells. What blows my mind is that an I color stone w/ strong blue that faces up whiter (sold as an I color stone w/ no drawbacks from the fluor) *should* sell quicker than an I color without it. Wouldn''t most people find the whiter stone desireable? All I can say, with my experience, I viewed a couple of non fluor 3c I''s with noticable color. Mine has none. Also, I can detect more color in my niece''s I .44 stones (AGS000) than my large 3 c.

Leonid, Thank you. Do you have a chart like the one above. If not, could you tell me the discount/premium for GHIJ for VVS1 and VVS2 1.5-1.99. Thanks

So refreshing to hear this ! Obviously it is a different thing to pick one diamond from a parcel and quite another to select one GIA cert from a folder of scanned copies

Any idea why fluorescent diamonds were coined "cloudy" to begin with?
As far as I understand, once upon a time there was a scandal about overgrading fluorescent diamonds and then a reaction to it. But from there to the bad name is a bit of a distance.

Last one....

I-K/VS-SI 1.5-1.99 2-2.99
Faint 0.0% -1.1%
Medium +1.7% +0.4%
Strong -4.5% -6.7%

Again these numbers are just for indication. They may fluctuate because of the vendors, availability/demand, etc.

Sorry Leonid, I was asking for VVS.

Thanks.

I am sorry

Actually there are not too many diamonds for 1.5-1.99ct VVS to draw any statistically reliable numbers but hope you've got the trend though.

Sorry Leonid, I was asking for VVS.
How about a nice panel regression guys ;)

In the meantime, here''s another shop''s word for it (link). These guys basically say "at most 5%".
But then, the price variation due to cut and store by store pricing is far greater than that, so it is anybody''s guess when those 1-2% can actually be seen in action...
