I recently bought two beautiful hand carved gold bands from the 1940''s from an estate shop. Both brand new and 1.5mm wide. They are currently a size 7 1/4 and both have the design all the way around the band. My first question is can a jeweler stretch these bands to size them so the desgin isn''t broken? How many sizes (I only need 1/4 to 1/2 size more)? Also, I have a comfort fit 3mm diamond channel set band in a size 7. All of these rings have been measured by jewelers, three of them, and the smaller bands each come to 7 1/4 while the larger one comes to a 7. Why is it that the thicker size 7 band is loose on my finger while the smaller size 7 1/4 band are tighter? It seems that a 7 is a 7 is a 7

eta: the thicker one is loose by itself and the smaller ones are tight by themselves, so not stacking them.

The subjective feeling of loose and tight may have to do with the finish on the inside of the bands. I find my non-comfort fit bands feel more conspitcuous on my finger, which might feel tighter. If the thicker band is slightly rounded on the inside it will feel looser.

They can shave some metal from the inside to give you some more space if you want it, but only if the band is thick enough to handle it.
