I've gotten as fare as reading the internet can help me, but I need help from experienced people. I'm also red/green colour blind so want to make sure I am seeing things right! :)

Those look like computer generated images to me and not actual idealscope and ASET images, so I am not sure what I think about those. I'd say they look okay. The video shows a nice shape, but it doesn't show a clear view under the table so I am not sure how defined those facet are.

You didn't list the diameter measurements of the stone and that is very important because cushions can face up small due to being deep. This one also has a thick girdle which might also affect the diameter.

I'm not an expert on that type of cushion faceting. There is no "straight answer" to your question, although you have a lot of information on that stone. The best way to pick a cushion is to compare to several others that have great ASETS and compare them side by side as to which one you prefer based on what you are seeing. I will say for that type of faceting on a cushion of that particular stone it looks ok, as I believe they say that the red in the ASET should be scattered evenly throughout the stone. I personally don't care for that type of faceting on a cushion. Do you have a picture of the stone face up? It can get expensive sending stones back a forth, so I would not suggest that you do that without a comparision of several stones side by side.

There is some good information on cushions in this recent thread. Also a list of vendors that specialize in selecting good performing cushions.

Since you cannot see this cushion compared to others for yourself I would suggest you select a cushion from Good Old Gold. They will do a side by side comparison video of several cushions for their customers. You can also view the ASETs of their cushions and the technology that they have to prove the light return (MegaScope) from the cushions they have in their inventory, which will help to educate you on what a good cushion ASET with maximum light return looks like.

Also a VVS clarity is over kill and will make the stone more expensive for it's carat weight. A VS2 or SI1 that is eye clean will allow you to find a larger stone face up. Also a depth of around 65% will make the stone face up larger for it's carat weight...as the stone I found for the poster in the thread above.

You can also select 3 cushions on JA and they will supply 3 ASETS and you can get the gemologist's opinion as to which of the 3 is the best performer. If you decide to use JA or other vendors that specialize in cushion cuts, I suggest you post a new thread asking for cushion experts on PS to help you find a good cushion in your budget.

Good luck with your search. Finding a Really nice cushion is like looking for a needle in a haystack, but you can find them online. You need to decide which type of faceting you prefer first. If you do prefer that crushed ice type of faceting the ASET does look good on the cushion you posted. The red and green are scattered evenly throughout the stone. And also the depth is 68% which makes it face up decent for a 1 carat cushion.

For instance, here is a nicely faceted modern cushion on JA 1.5c with strong blue flourescence which can make an I color face up more white...plus in certain lighting it can take on a blue hue adding personality to your stone. Many long time PSr's prefer to find a stone with strong blue fl. You only need to check with the vendor to make sure it does not make the stone hazy or milky which is VERY rare. Also it appears it could be eye clean which you can confirm this with the vendor.

It faces up 6.5 x 6.5 which is a whole mm larger than the stone you posted and seems budget friendly at $6700. Don't know your budget but just wanted to show you what is possible when you are searching for a nice diamond that faces up large.

And this 1.5 H VS2 with blue fl. at 7k (VERY nice stone)

here is a cushion brilliant (antique cushion) which is also nice but maybe not eye clean. But look at the ASET on the AGS report. Surprisingly red under the table and looks like it would be a great performing cushion. 6.5 x 6.0 and $6,000. AGS gives it a 1 (excellent in light performance) The AVC's on GOG usually get an AGS Ideal 0 in light performance. You want a cushion where the red goes all the way to the edges of the stone showing the light is performing even on the edges making the stone appear larger.
The antique cushions with the small tables and high crowns are highly sought after. The high crowns give them that pillowy/cushiony look which adds to the beauty of a cushion cut.

Also AGS is the only lab that gives a light performance rating on cushions...that should tell you something about how hard it is to find good performing cushions as not very many are graded by AGS.

I don't know your budget but hopefully you can find a nicely performing cushion that will face up at least 6mm x 6 mm and over 1 carat.
