I had a 2.02 carat solitaire (round, E, SI1) that was stolen from our hotel room (we believe). I'm a fool --- it wasn't covered by insurance yet.
The diamond didn't come with a GIA certificate, so I don't know whether it was ever registered with the GIA, but the appraisal does include the specific measurements, proportions, depth, table etc...
If I send a copy of this unique 'map' of my diamond to the GIA, do you think they could keep an eye out for it, or am I dreaming?
