Anyone ever heard of using a stock shank (from stuller or adwar or whatever) and then custom-crafting a head with a bezel setting to go on it? Is this the most economical way to set fancy-shaped gems?
It is very often the only way to get a setting tailored to a specific coloured gemstone that a setter can set easily because it tailored to the exact stone shape (coloured stones very often vary in girdle thicknesses depths and angles, as coloured stones are often cut for colour etc) and if it is made right then the setter won''t have to compromise on his job.
Tricky jobs can be very time consuming, but if you are talking about the full or half bezel in a round or oval stone, or not too large (the exact dimensions might have to be catered for) square/rect stone, the costs are not too much.
