Hm. In your position, I''d put about $5K or so into a round brilliant (the safest choice) somewhere between .85 - 1.25 carats and put it in one of those cheap, 14K temporary rings. After you propose and she says yes and cries over the ring, you can talk about how you want the two of you to choose her wedding set together.

Of course.

This way, she gets to wear the diamond in a setting that she loves. You don''t have to worry about your taste in settings not meshing will with hers. Why guess when she probably already knows what she likes/wants.
