Hello everybody and thank you for your time and assistance in advance.

For the past 3-4 weeks I have begun looking for the perfect engagement ring for my future bride to be. Obviously I would like the best bang for my buck and that's why I am posting here and hoping that you all can point me in the right direction.

I figure I can be very upfront with all of you and say that I do not view diamonds as an investment. I know that goes against the thinking of many on this forum. Sure, trade in value and all that might be important to some of you but I am hoping to just purchase the one and only diamond that will be on her left hand for her life time. Not interested in upgrading that one in the future (I'll just buy here another ring if she want's bigger but would like for her to keep the original for sentimental reasons).

So with that out of the way here is what I'm looking for (Hopefully :))

Budget (for a loose stone) roughly $7K, maybe more, maybe less.
- Round
- Carat (as big as I can get)
- Color (as best I can get for the budget)
- Clarity (As long as inclusions are not seen by the naked eye that is fine. Her friends, family will not be walking around with a scope and checking the thing out under magnification lol). I know all of you are against "Enhanced" diamonds but I have not totally ruled this out. I do feel that I would be OK with Laser Enhanced diamonds but maybe you all will talk me out of going this route (but please take into consideration my second paragraph).

Can you please give me some schooling on table, depth #'s as how they affect the size by the naked eye?

Everybody's thoughts? I am not opposed to purchasing online if that is the most affordable way to go. I do work in NYC so if you have a great recommendation on who to see here, please let me know.

Thanks everybody!

With your budget, I'm guessing you can get about a 1 carat stone, maybe a little larger if you're willing to go with a slightly lower color/clarity. You will want to avoid enhanced diamonds because they may not old up over time, and as you said, you'd like her to keep this ring for her lifetime, even if she gets another ring later.

Do you know what kind of setting you/she would prefer? I would suggest getting the stone wherever you get the setting, which may narrow your search for vendors somewhat.

I don't know about all the numbers for ideal cuts, but you can get started reading here and others may chime in: https://www.pricescope.com/wiki/diamonds
