Hello everyone,

Looking to purchase a small stone 0.3, E colour, SI1 but have read differing views. Several mention that a star facet 55% or greater can make the diamond look dark and another article mentions 55% its the "sweet spot" for maximum fire.

Any ideas ?

Many thanks

Star facets does not have so much impact to the diamond. 55% is absolutely acceptable. Your eye will not be able to differ 50% of 55% anyway.

55 is fine and works with almost any crown angle and table size.
Depending on the crown angle and table size out to 65 can work fine.

As far as making the diamond dark that is one of those half truths that are so common in the industry.
With some angle combinations a long star can be a sign of the upper girdles being overly steep resulting in reduced light return along the edge of the stone. It is so easy for cutters to avoid I think I have came across maybe 2 of them in all my years here.
55 isn't considered long.
