Hello..new to posting..so here it goes.

I''ve been reading all the wonderful information on asschers on this website-Asscher FAQ''s, pictures, aset, specs, etc. etc. Strmrdr in a recent post said "it looks more squarish emerald vs asscher" or something like that regarding the stone..Exactly what does that mean? Is one better than the other? Also on certs, sometimes you see "square emerald" cut and sometimes "step corner square" or something like that? What is that?
The information on this website has been most helpful..I love the tutorials! I feel lucky to have found it. To think we almost bought an asscher at a store with no regard to anything but the color & clarity. I''m on the hunt now for a perfect asscher and I want to make sure that I know as much as I can. Thanks for bearing with me if all of this has be hashed out on a previous post-direct me to the right spot! We are getting married in April and we have no ring! I have contacted a few people for some asschers.

Thanks for your time, Helen

Squareish can mean the stone has a keel along the bottom - not meeting in a pointed culet.

Or he might have meant the stone had small corners and a flat top more like an emerald cut which could be brihter and have less of the windmill corners pattern and wishing well drop down effect?

keel == a line or rectangle - shaped culet is a EC and I will also call it a squarish emerald if its near square.
pointed or ground down point == asscher == square emerald.

In a near square stone its often better too leave it a keel than force it too a point.
Say around 1.05 l/w or so.
If the angles are all the same it will naturally form a point or keel based on the l/w ratio.

There is nothing wrong with a squarish emerald if that is what someone is looking for and they often sell at a discount over SE/Asscher.

Over simplification Storm.
For a ring, I agree.
But for a pendant or eari rings, I would not

THanks so much you guys! From what I understand and I''m going to over, oversimplify this for my little brains sake-no culet, which is what i was going for to begin with and if it''s cut square and in proportion to begin with, it shouldn''t have one. That being said, I put a diamond on hold today.
