So I spoke to Brian about this ring and he said that it was a very beautiful stone that faces up very white. I had told him there were some concerns with the low HCA score, 0.4, and he said that although his ideal number is around 1, this was still a very beautiful eye-clean stone. One thing he said that I am not sure of is that this stone would perform better in dim lighting than in bright lighting like outdoor lighting. What does this mean???? There were some who were concerned with the contrast in the ring, but Brian said I should not be worried about that.

One other thing, should I be concerned that this diamond is a New Line ACA-probably why it performs better in dim lighting.

Here is the orginal post with some discussion that was going on.

Thank you to everyone who helps!!!

I''m sure it is indeed a very beautiful stone, and you can trust Brian''s eyes and opinions.

It''s also a very hard size to find right now (with, as far as I know, no real change for the better in sight anytime soon.)

I think you''d LOVE it!

I agree with the others. I think Brian''s eye trumps any HCA score. And, as Julie points out, the HCA score is a .7, not .4. That''s a big difference. I would ask Brian what he means about the stone not doing as well in outdoor lighting, but if this stone gets the ACA label, I suspect it''s top notch.

Im going to let John or Brian explain what he ment, Im pretty sure I know what they are going to say but ill let them say it.

If Brian says the hca score/shallow pavilion isnt a problem then it isnt.
As I said in the other thread that angle combo can go either way and Brian will be able to quickly tell if its a problem.
As far as new line vs classic thats been covered a lot lately.

I can elaborate, though Strm could likely get it done with less words.

Brian was referring to the quality of the scintillation. With this ACA you may have noticed the Ideal-scope image shows no light leakage. This means light flows across the facet junctions uninterrupted with motion. Less breakup of light results in larger, colorful ‘broadfire’ scintillation which is at its best in indirect lighting conditions where it’s visible from a good distance. Alternately, when a diamond has symmetrical points of light leakage in the IS the light gets broken up quickly resulting in more tiny, rapid on-off ‘pinfire’ flashes which are most notable in direct light. The two styles are at equal levels of beauty. I’d also volunteer that the lower girdle facets on this diamond are on the long side for ACA. That enhances performance in direct light. It is well balanced.

As usual, I'd like to caution that the differences I'm describing here are not like spotlights and sparklers

, they’re like subtle differences in fine wine (with this vintage you taste slightly more blackberry than this one, madam) and for some may be acquired over time.

Lauraher, does this help?

Thank you so much John, and everyone else! Sorry for all the questions, I just want to make sure I am making a good purchase-it''s a lot of money. And I do now understand between New Line and Classic, and that HCA is not everything.

Thank you again to all!!!
