Okay...so I''ve been threatening to upgrade my perfectly lovely RHR for awhile now and found a setting that caught my eye. It''s a split shank square halo with a RB center stone, a look I''ve been contemplating but haven''t found until now.

Here''s a link to the setting:
http://www.knoxjewelers.biz/index.htm?crn=213&rn=937&action=show_detail

Whaddya think? Does it work? Does it give the illusion of a square stone (love the idea of the performance of a round with the look of a square)? Or does it look like...uh...a round in a square halo (which I guess isn''t really a bad thing)? Do y''all like the overall look?

I couldn''t find much information on this jeweler. Any opinions/feedback/stories on their workmanship, etc.? The setting looks decent-ish from the pix, but it''s so hard to tell.

Anywhooooo--lemme know what you think!

Thanks! :)

Kathleen, I just came across this setting on my own the other day. Brian Knox has a great reputation (he is a regular poster on DT). I too think it looks like a square stone due to the lack of "boundaries" between the stone and halo. I also love the look of a square stone with the performance of a round. That setting is gorgeous, and I was also infatuated with it. Let us know what you decide!

Thanks for the feedback, Lizz! Super helpful.

I love that you saw/liked the setting on your own. Makes it seem like serendipity! :) Also good to know that Brian Knox has a solid reputation.

Trying to decide how I feel about the milgraining along the edges. Usually, I like the no-milgraining/bezel/borders look (more Harry Winstony than Tiffany Legacy), but I wonder if that''d look weird considering a) it''s a split shank and b) I''d be doing that whole round/square thing. Maybe a ring like that needs those features to give it definition?

I love it!

I think that setting is gorgous! One of the prettiest I have seen! I would indeed keep the milgraining. It does add definition to the ring. For me, the ring is an antiquey sort of ring and it kind of needs the milgraining. It wouldn''t look as nice without it to me.

I think the ring, and the design, are gorgeous!!!

That''s a fantastic setting. For LH,too. I''m putting it in my favs file...

I think that setting is just beautiful. I can tell you from experience that Knox is wonderful about quotes and returning emails. They also have a wonderful reputation and beautiful things. Please keep us posted if you decide to do this! Mokey

Thanks for the replies, everyone!!

Sounds like y''all are digging it. I am, too! I must admit that my heart did a little fluttery dance when I saw the picture. That''s probably a good sign! :)

I love it!!

This is what I said about Brian Knox on another post:

"I had a custom RHR desgined by knox jewelers and I could not be happier with my ring and with the service from knox. Brian was incredibly friendly, patient, and detail oriented. He really made me feel like he wanted to get every detail right. Their prices were very fair as well. The only downside I can think of is that it took a little longer than other jewelers to complete the ring, but it was well worth it."
My pictures aren''t great, but here is the link to the ring they designed for me:

Hi kcoursolle!

I got all excited and posted my reply to your other post about Knox. ;) Whoopsie!

Thanks for the info about Knox. I looooooooooooooooove your ring and am so happy to hear that the service was top-knotch. Beautiful work and great service is one of my favorite combinations! :)

Enjoy that wonderful ring!
Kathy

Kathy, I think the ring is gorgeous! I''d keep the milgraining too. Adding it to my faves file as well...

That ring is gorgeous! I love the RB in a square halo!

Hi Kim N. and Diamond*Dana!

Thanks for the replies. Glad everyone''s liking this setting.

Thanks also for the feedback about the milgraining. I actually did find a photo (different jeweler) of a split shank halo that didn''t have milgraining and I don''t think I liked it quite as much. Good to know! :)
