What do you prefer to hold a RB?

What size RB? ... splits only look flattering to me on a larger stone (Leon Mege says this as well if I recall). I do not prefer heart prongs - ever. What about the good old (non-bulbous) single claw?

Thank you! It is about a 1.15 carat weight diamond.

Is a split prong the same as a double claw prong?

I think they are one and the same...

Sounds like you have a nice size diamond... I love the heart prongs, but split prongs are amazing. I think they are timeless and classy.

Hi Everyone.

Can someone tell me what RB means? I''m sorry if its a silly question but I have so much to learn!! Thanks =)

RB = round brilliant, and it''s not a silly question--there are so many things to learn here!

Hi Guys!

Yes a split prong I think looks like a double prong from the top down. I appreciate everyone''s feedback. But a couple of you didn''t tell me which you prefer (Lorelei, Gwendolyn LOL...)

BTW, I think all the acronyms are confusing too. I have always wondered: What does ETA mean?? :-)

I assume we are talking a four prong head? Cause if we''re taking 6 prongs, hearts for sure. But if it''s four prong... I prefer the split prongs, as long as they are dainty and small.

Hi Gypsy this would be a 4 prong. Why do you prefer the split prong? :-)

Hi Lorelei, thank you! But why the split prong? Have you guys seen a 4 prong heart prong on a RB? :-)

I like the 4 split prongs as it is what I have, they seem to be very secure, and I like the look of them. I haven''t seen a 4 heart prong.

Well, I couldn''t tell you which I preferred until I knew what we were talking about.

I think I prefer single prongs over all of them by a lot (which you didn''t ask about, haha!), and then double and hearts in 2nd and 3rd place.

Thanks Lorelei and Gwen.

Belle posted a picture of a three stone WF heart prong. I wish I could post it here. If you search "heart prong" you can see it from March 2007

Well that didn''t work. :-(

I know it's kind of hard to see, but this is an MWM 4-prong with heart on an RB, for anyone who hasn't seen it before.

Thanks Gwen! Can you make the whiteflash picture I linked to appear?

I prefer the split prong...heart prongs are pretty and cute.
Split prongs seem classy to me.

I think that properly done split prongs keep the stone looking rounder than heart prongs do in four prong heads. It's just a personal preference thing. Plus many heart prongs seem to over power smaller stones (under 1.75 carats)... whereas I have seen well executed split prongs that don't.

I am not sure, let me see....

ETA: Yes I can! I just downloaded it and renamed it.

Agreed, I think the more substantial the prongs, the more squared off the center stone looks.

When/if I get the Torchiere from Mark for my ring, even though it is 6-prongs, I am going to ask him to do the smallest claw prongs he can, instead of the heart prongs, because I want the least amount of metal on the top of my diamond.

Thanks you guys so much! Thank you Gwen for posting the picture and for your thoughts. Thank you Gypsy, Miranda, Lorelei, Diamond Dana and everyone else for your rationale. I see your point Gypsy. The thing is I really like Belle''s heart prongs as well but I don''t usually like heart prongs. Except I LOVE the heart prongs on Belle''s W prong WF ring. (This is the pic that Gwen very kindly posted for me). And I saw another one in their store that had the same prongs and they were magnificent. But I also LOVE the Leon split claw style prongs. Any additional thoughts you have would be great. Thank you again!

I do think the heart prongs in that WF ring are very lovely.

I like double prongs, pointed double prongs if I had a choice. I''m not a fan of heart prongs at all and would never choose them.

It''s true Addy, I don''t normally care for them myself. But on the W prong they speak to me. But I am obviously torn here b/c I love the split prong. I hope others will chime in as well.

BTW Addy, what don''t you like about them, particularly if they look the way Belle''s look? Thanks!!

Thanks Gwen, AGAIN. I really appreciate your input and help

I usually only prefer split-prongs on square shapes, preferrably asschers or emerald cuts. If it has only four prongs, I wouldn''t get the heart shape either - it will make the RB look square.

On the image you posted, even though it looks like split-prong, it doesn''t actually look seperated - there isn''t any airspace, so it''s actually one prong with an indentation in the middle. Which actually looks really nice as a four-prong. I''d go with that :)

Split prongs; 2 ct. and above.

Heart prongs; never. Too cutesy as in "isn''t that sweet"
