Is there any way to describe sphene other than in capital letters? :cool2: Sphene are soft so this ring is not for daily wear but I would look weird staring down at my own pendant all day so ring it is.
Not much of a story. I saw a sphene 15 years ago but I’m not a fan of the bright lime green color typical of the stone. But tastes change and a while back I thought how cool would it be to have a stone with that kind of fire, even if I’m not in love with the color. So one day I went to a jeweler with a good reputation. I went for the purpose of resetting a diamond. Just for the heck of it I asked the jeweler if he had any sphene. He looked at me for a minute and said nobody comes in asking for sphene. Then he went in the back and came out with some of the coolest stones I’ve ever seen. The neat thing about the ones he showed me was that they were not lime green. There were some dark orange ones, which I had seen before online but not in real life. Then there were these kind. The photos do not show how they look to the naked eye most of the time. Outside the setting, the stones are actually just slightly off-white, with a yellow undertone. I wish I had taken a photo pre-setting. They were like a J or K color diamond. I am not a fan of warm diamonds in white settings (not judging anyone else), so I asked that the jeweler to set the stones in rose gold. Now that they are set most of the time they look like the pretty M-N-O diamonds some of you wear. In some light the sphenes look white, in some light they look yellow, and in some light they look green. It must depend on the viewing angle. When photographed they are pretty obviously green and yellow.

I forgot the carat weight but I don’t know how the weight and size of sphene compares to diamond anyway. The stones are about 5mm. The setting is 14k rose gold and size 9 on my middle finger. The jeweler is Heart to Heart in Honolulu.

I'd never heard of sphene before and they are just gorgeous, such pretty colours! I also love the setting, just like a little clover. A beautiful ring, thanks for sharing!
