I got a Facebook ad recently for the "all new" Sparkle Cut diamonds (All this PSing has messed with my cookies). Does anyone know anything about this company/process? My immediate reaction is to be skeptical, but my knowledge of the intricacies of diamond cutting technology is pretty limited.

I both applaud and am scandalized by anyone who claims to be "throwing out the 4c's." Haha.

I mostly just can't figure out why it would be "cheaper" than a traditional diamond if they claim to be starting out with top quality cuts and stones....

I originally thought that it was maybe based on a proprietary cut that was shallower but with more light return to increase face up size, but now I see that they start the "process" with a traditionally cut diamond. So what is going on here?

Sounds like the emperors new diamonds.

Seems like they are starting out will "well cut" stones (e.g. horrible), and then they are making "micro cuts" that they claim will improve the sparkle.

Looks like a bog standard 58 facet modern round brilliant that has “nano lasered edges” pavilion side. The GemEx report they give for that 0.5ct they use as an example shows decreased brilliance coupled with high fire and scintillation. GIA report for that stone looks like an absolute dogs breakfast too (IMHO).

So my take on this is that the “finely milled grooves” (their description) pavilion side will break up the pavilion into smaller reflectors of light so you don’t see many broad flashes of white light, but instead more smaller reflections of fire and scintillation.

Maybe possible, but they are definitely not using any decent diamonds to start off with in my books.
