I am not sure where to post this question (I am sorry if I posted in the wrong forum)

I want a spacer. Both my wedding band and engagement ring are platinum. Questions:

1. Do I buy a platinum spacer? Does the metal matter or is it just preference?
2. Anyone have any great online stores that they love? Whiteflash doesn’t sell spacers as separate items. I live in California and between COVID and the fires, it seems online Shopping is my best option.
3. Any tips/advice/pics would be really appreciated.

I got mine in a couple of places. I got a .80mm platinum one from BlueRidgeNotions when she was still on Etsy. I still wear it today. She has her own website last time I checked but I haven't purchased from her lately or from her website.

My other bands came from Sennin Esko who has his site and an etsy still. I have 2 argentium silver 1mm or so cheapies I got a few years ago to see if nickle free silver would be an issue for me. And i purchased a 1.5mm rose gold knife edge spacer from him at least a year later. And more recently my husband purchased a carved knife edge rose gold band from him. I feel all my bands from both vendors are great! If you made me choose though I would stick with Sennin :)

Edit: I can take some pictures of the silver and carved bands if you like. I can dig up some of me wearing the spacer and rose gold plain one too if you want

I have bought platinum bands from e-weddingbands, Sennin (Mountain Spirit Jewels) on Etsy, and Mika (Rutherford & Fairfax) on Etsy. Very happy with all these purchases!!

If both your bands are platinum then I definitely recommend sticking with the same metal, so they both look identical and wear in identical fashion.

I’ve bought a band from ewedding bands.com Im happy with the band and the price point was reasonable. Yes, keep it platinum.

@yssie If mixing metals is not a concern, is the spacer ideally a softer metal?

I would stick to the same metal as your e-ring and wedding band. I bought a 1mm platinum spacer band that I'm very happy with from Etsy vendor The Love Knot Shop). It was only $76.

You can see it in my Avatar photo. I started trial wearing it with just my e-ring and it's very unobtrusive. I kept wearing it (not married yet) because it actually pushes my e-ring up to a place on my finger where it doesn't spin as much! The spacer really isn't noticeable between the e-ring and wedding band.

That's the advice I typically see, but if the spacer is meant to be the cookie filling, then I could also see where having a softer 24k spacer would be useful.

I'm not the OP you are responding to but it's definitely not a rule to have them be the same metal. Only one of my spacers is the same metal as my engagement ring (platinum.) The rest are different metals I like mixed metals though. Definitely a YMMV thing :) if someone doesn't like mixing metals it probably is a better choice for them to pick the same metal as their set. I just think a small pop of colour in a stack is so pretty :kiss2:

This is kind of a silly question, but what is a spacer used for?

My wife has this one, it comes from Tiffany’s. They don’t sell that one anymore, but here is a similar one:

Great choice! Thanks

Not a stupid question at all. Diamonds in one ring can sometimes wear away at the metal of the other ring. For example, a diamond wedding band can erode the prongs of an engagement ring solitaire, depending on how they rest together on the hand. A spacer is like a little sacrificial lamb in between them - it separates the rings and also who cares if the spacer gets scratched or damaged.
