Hi,
PS scope has been a tremendous source of help and inspiration in diamond search. I see how helpful it is to folks in selecting diamonds to have the advice of PS experts. Hoping for some help ourselves. Its down to the wire--getting married in 8 weeks and still no ring!! Fiance and I have been shopping together but very few ovals in brick and mortar stores. ISO oval diamond with approximate specs: 1.15 -1.25, depth 58-62, table 53-63, L:W 1.35 -1.45, color E-G, VS2 or higher. Budget around 8K. I've looked extensively online so not trying to pass off my work, but just overwhelmed by options on PS, GOG, WF, etc and I'm finding it hard to narrow down to two that could be sent to appraiser. We would appreciate any expert advice on specific options currently available on the internet. Ready to buy. Thank you!

Not an oval expert, but if it were me I'd call Jon at GOG and see what he can do for you. He found a beautiful oval for my mom when she got re-married!

Fancy shapes eg. ovals, are impossible to buy just by the numbers. You have to look at them in person, or find a trusted vendor who can narrow down the field and show pics and video.
Try to find one that isn't too deep (>67%) or it will face up smaller than one the same carat weight but better cut. Go by millimetres rather than carats. Try to get one with six or eight main pavillion facets, and not too thick a girdle. Don't fear the bowtie, it is a function of the elongated cut. Just make sure it isn't too big or dark.
I love my oval e-ring, it is very fiery!
WF isn't my first choice for fancies, but if they've got one you love, go for it. I'd second GOG, not because I've bought from them, but because they do fancies and seem to have excellent customer service.
Good luck!

Thanks so much for the tips. I emailed GOG. Also, I have a trade up possibility with USAA but prices seem high. I'd rather not keep my first diamond (about $4k) and nice to have the option of bigger diamond, but don't want to buy there just to trade in if price is high. I found this one:

Have you talked to any of the vendors you've communicated with about whether they would be willing to accept the stone as trade-in? You may get less for it than with USAA but it could contribute some at least to the new one. With GOG at least, even if they won't accept it for trade-in value they may be able to consign it for you so you could still sell it.

Hi, yes, I did get one quote but it was so low that I thought it would make sense to keep the diamond and reset it at a later date, then pass on to daughter. I'm not totally opposed though. Just so tired of looking and looking. Thnx.

The one picture they show doesn't look great, and I'm not sure if it is a picture of the actual diamond or just a generic 'here is an oval' picture. The specs look good, but once again, you CANNOT buy a fancy shape on specs alone. You must have pictures.

Hi! I agree that GOG will be your best bet since they can provide detailed video comparisons. I have an oval that I love from James Allen, which also could be a viable option-they will provide up to 3 ASETS and descriptions of each stone and you could post them on here for oval expert opinions. I am a total novice when it comes to diamonds much less ovals and PS has been an amazing resource. Good luck!
