I work for a jeweler who pulls lots of stones from jewelry pieces before the metal is scraped. We have accumulated alot of small melee, but there might be CZ''s mixed in by accident. Does anyone have a good, effecient way to sort this small melee? We were thinking blacklight, but are open to any suggestions for sorting through lots and lots of small stones fast.

Since not all diamonds are fluorescent, (and some fluoresce the same color as CZ), this could miss a significant number of diamonds, but may work for an initial screening. A better method may be to sieve the stones into fairly tight size groupings and then weigh each stone. Anything obviously too heavy for it''s size is either cut very poorly or is a CZ. Setting up a digital scale to flip stones on and then off into two piles should be easy and quick enough to make it worthwhile. Make sure the stones are well cleaned before hand in order to get a good size through the sieve and then again when weighing.
