Somebody's Gotta Buy This Piece!

It says make an offer but then I don’t see an offer button… weird.

I see one. Maybe try a different browser or shut down and restart?

They made me an offer so maybe that’s why….

It’s all moot bc I’m not going to buy it despite everyone’s encouragement/bullying lol. I want to set my sapphire suite so I am saving up for that.

I guess I can forgive you for that!

Folks, in what world would this ring command such a price?? "Imperial Jade" but no paperwork? Am I crazy, or are they?

@newtojewels Oh dear... now I know where to sell my jadeite if ever I want to.
That is not imperial jadeite, although it is a large size and the setting is quite lovely.
I suppose the price reflects not so much the quality as the sentimental value to the seller and its age.
The jadeite is not very translucent (which is what we would expect t in imperial jadeite).
The texture is not watery enough for imperial and the hue is also not right.
There are are lots of black veins visible in the photo. These make the stone look less translucent and reduce glow .There isn't that arresting glow that we see in quality jadeite.
Re: "earth-mined", this is the first time I have seen jadeite described that way. Jadeite comes out of boulders, it is not earth mined like ruby or sapphire.
Just for comparison, here is a piece that is not imperial green, but nicer than the 160K jadeite on the ebay seller's site. It is roughly the same size as that piece, and slightly thicker. The price is about 11K USD.

This is imperial green :mrgreen2:IMG_0104.jpeg

I assumed you were going to say basically exactly this but I was also wondering if there was maybe something I was missing. Thank you so much for weighing in! I'll take those earrings, please! :kiss2:

Does this look like paraiba? Alex Sepkus size 6.75

I don't think it's paraiba but I've been eyeing this one. I have wanted an Alex Sepkus ring for like 15 years. There was the PERFECT one on TRR a couple months ago and I hesitated over the price and it sold. And this is even more expensive!

This is the one I should have just gone for:

Thanks for this info. Do you or anyone else have any links you can share on how to evaluate jade for purchase? How does one buy lower quality jade that is still considered nice. Is there a place where I can listen to jade educators, like what we do here… Are there any discussion groups on evaluating middle of the road but nice jade?

I think the true gem quality high end jade is beautiful but not in my price point.

I saw that blue sapphire one, it WAS perfect. Sorry you missed it.

@LightBright This is a great thread:

Should I get this? I should be on the total ban island because I might not have a job soon (waiting for the Supreme Court to make up their minds) but but. It's the 5 stone band, it's a mix between single cuts and European / transitional? The trilogy is mine and filthy from sunscreen sorry. The 5 stone band is also filthy, but I'm not seeing anything with a loup. It's a size 5 and need to make it a 5.75. Also sorry for my hands, I did a chemical peel for sun damage and I'm peeling - I'm a hard core gardener.

Omg they are stunning! And if you can swing it, yes to the 5 stone. It looks lovely and if it appears clean under loupe—go for it!

On the due diligence side: What are the specs? Do any of the stones appear loose/prong issues? Do you like having a mix of cuts?

Fun problem to ponder, I hope. And fingers crossed on the Supreme Court decision.

A lovely navette pendant on sale. What’s interesting to me is the tiny side stones are listed as rose cut—I had assumed single cut. Can’t quite tell from TRR pics.

TRR needs to hire us, the entire group, as consultants. For 60% off merchandise. I see both rose and single

@WhoaNelly thank you!!! No specs, it's a small local place and the prongs seem fine. The mixed cuts are not noticeable to my old eyes and they have similar colors and clarity.

Hahaha—I hear you on the old eyes. Sigh.

It’s such a lovely piece and will complement so many of your wonderful pieces, imho.

More pics please, especially side views.

And do share your decision.

You’re good, @newtojewels ! You have that instinct.:appl::appl:

@ShinyPink has kindly pointed you to my thread. See you there! I’ll write a post on where to find nice jadeite at a reasonable price. =)

Thank you so much, @ShinyPink :mrgreen2::wavey:

what were we saying above about selling husbands to raise money? Mine cooks.

Mine cooks, cleans, repairs cars, is extremely handy around the house, and can fix/make furniture, etc. Still, he fetched a small price.... sloppy seconds and all. :lol-2:

Seriously though, I'm at the point where I don't even enjoy watching Dolly's posts. There's just something about them, but I don't know what it is.

I think part of it for me is the portrayed vibe of how exclusive everything is when I saw something I posted here from TRR end up there for sale....It's not that she doesn't have beautiful things because she does, I just don't like that aspect of the salesmanship personally. But it's obviously working for her!

I busted another one who buys from ebay, boasts about working hard to find deals, and then selling on FB for 25% markup, sometimes using the original seller's photos.
