I wasn't going to keep the setting, so I didn't care, but I thought I'd mention because it's not clear in the listing. It's actually kind of a plus, because I said it was damaged so didn't have to pay for return shipping.

I returned it just because I didn't love it and my project is not at all urgent. It was a sparkly, happy stone, but in some lighting I saw a fish eye, which I'm very sensitive to, and it didn't have a defined OEC facet pattern I like. It looked like a pretty high color, maybe I-J, and I couldn't spot any inclusions with my loupe.

I’m going to wonder out loud.

Type IIa are Galconda historical diamonds or where else (there are mines in Canada, Africa, for example) are they finding HUGE (8 plus carat crystals) of D color Type IIa diamonds that they are selling on RealReal, not auction or bespoke.

It seems so sketchy.

Someone who knows should chime in.

I had the same thought, seems like it should be sold at Sotheby's.... The report didn't mention Type IIa that I saw either but maybe I missed it.

I agree. When I looked at it my first thought was why would someone try to sell a diamond like this on the RR. The only thing I came up with is that they didn't like the estimate that the auctions gave them, along with all the auction fees, or what dealers offered, and thought their piece of the sale from the RR would be better? Otherwise, makes no sense to me.

There is also this 1.5 million dollar VCA bracelet that just showed up on TRR! This is another piece that would be a much more appropriately sold through Christie's or Sotheby's!

Yes perhaps, I would think the target audience would have more confidence buying from one of the big auction houses, since they deal in these very expensive pieces more often, but I’m sure they have their reasons for going through TRR!

I see it in the title but I thought GIA reports usually had an add-on stating IIa if requested and that's what I can't find from the report number. I definitely wouldn't trust the TRR gemologist assessment without a lab report so I'm wondering where the confirmation is.
 
I've bought several pieces of jewelry on TRR, but I can't imagine buying something that's over a certain price-point because of the very poor customer service I've received every single time. I'm not exactly sure what that price point would be, but perhaps $10K? Small chunk change in the scheme of high-quality jewelry (though perhaps to some, the $300,000 diamond is pocket change).

I went into my local Houston TRR boutique recently, and they required me to give them my drivers license to see small-ish stuff. I know it wasn't personal, but it still made me feel "dirty", like I was going to abscond with their scuffed trinkets. (I had just come from VCA where I got to try on the Snowflake earrings without anyone batting an eye and they gave me chocolates and bubbly during the process. They knew I wasn't there to buy something so expensive, but they wanted to make me feel like a princess, and to keep me in love with the brand, which they succeeded in doing.)

In stark contrast, the TRR SA was beyond stuuuuupid and extremely condescending. At one point, I asked very politely to see the Elsa Peretti bone cuff in silver, pointing to the bangle in the case. The SA said, "oh noooo, honey, that's TIFFANY!!!" Her tone was one of schooling a country bumpkin. :wall:

Whaaaat, that’s crazy! Even the pawn shop in the “you might lose a kidney” part of my town doesn’t require such nonsense.

I just wanted to echo that customer service at VCA is on a whole other level of wonderful. I went into their Wynn boutique looking like a hot mess to look at one of the cheapest items they carry. They treated me like royalty, then sent me a hardback book on the history of the brand. I’m honestly still shocked by the experience!

I must be missing something. The stone was recently certified loose. How did thy do it without damaging the setting?

I was close to pulling the trigger on this last night but the tourmaline / green stone looks so abraded I decided against it. I like the setting and the color of the stone.
