Some thoughts on antique cushion ring.

I am in the process of buying a 1.44 carat antique cushion diamond. My girlfriend does not know....I've had a friend of ours secretly get information for me and was told this would be her dream ring (in yellow gold like the picture if it had about a 1.5 antique cushion in it). I know it would be slighty different to secure the stone, but after the stone is purchased, I have a guy to design it that is very confident. I would like some opinions please....

Thank you!

Make sure you get cad design. Its going to look much different with a 1.5 cushion. Also...since the girdle is so exposed,
make sure that the stone that you get has a decent girdle (stay away from very thin etc.) Thats a fairly modern looking setting
and I'm not sure if its going to look right with an antique stone in it (my opinon).

Edit - I'm going to post some rings that are somewhat similar with smaller stones in them that might give you some ideas.

I think I agree with you, the look will change too much to allow for this stone. I have a couple other ideas I need to look at.

Thank you!

Also, what is the length to width ratio of your stone?

The ring will look different depending on whether you put a rectangular or square stone into it.

Rosetta,

I'm not sure of the exact dimensions yet, I should find out today.

tyty333,

I have seen the Katie solitaire before, but I'm not sure that she would like it. Another thought I have is this. It has always stood out and I know she likes the look of the double claw prongs:

I definitely prefer this over the first style that you posted. This is classic and timeless, the double prongs are a nice touch, it really complements an antique cushion.

I much prefer the Leon Mege, for sure!

I think the stone will be more secure in that setting too. A very important consideration for a ring that will get constant wear.

Simple and classic, I like it. Even though it's simple like the first one, it's quite a different look.

There should be a 1-2 carat thread around here somewhere, you may want to look in there to see what you actual size stone will look like. There's a pretty big difference between 2.75 and 1.5 carats.

That leon Mege ring would be beautiful...it is a different look/feel from the first ring you posted though.

As another option, this ring has some elements similar to the "dream ring" your GF loves... for frame of reference, it has a 2ct antique cushion. I think it has that "open" look like the Ben Bridge quartz ring but also includes design elements that provide stone security and a certain elegance.

another option is to put it in this SHoldt twisp Set

and yes, they can modify to fit a cushion.

Leon Mege - classic and timeless. The rest not so sure if it is something she would love a few years down the road.
